Don,the UD/Lunati 280/288 would be an excellent choice, especially with intake/exhaust improvements.A mild stall convertor would also compliment the combo very well.

Donny,

The UD 280/288 flat tap hyd is an excellent choice for that motor with the auto and 3.31 gears. It should produce a lot more power thoughout the complete RPM range and still work with the stock converter. You are picking up about 9 degress int duration, but providing a significant increase in lift and .200 duration as well as tightening up the LSA which will make the motor much more responsive.

Joe.

Edit: Chris and I were typing at the same time. I think he is the unofficial (maybe even official ?) spokesman for that Lunati Grind.

Edit #2 : As far as intakes, there are a number of us that have been tooling with a practical useable cutoff for using the Performer 2-0 and changing to the RPM or possibly the Weiand Stealth. And my gut is an agressive cam with 220 @ .050 is the useable limit of the Performer 2-0. The feedback I get is we seem to hit a wall of about 5000 RPM with the 2-0 when using an agressive cam. I think the 2-0 is better suited for either a short duration (ie. 210 -215 @ .050 max or shorter) or an older style long seat duration. lower lift cam [something like 290 -300 adv/225-230 @ .050, .500 lift]. Haven't been able to document this, but there sure seems to a pattern.

Joe,it's looking good for tomorrow for the track, and I'm hoping to see an improvement from the swap to the RPM.I have the weather data from my last track outing,so I will have some good comparison info.

if i leave the cast iron intake and Qjet on is this cam still a good choice?
want to keep the appearance stock looking.

or is their a cam that will provide better performance?

Don,the cast iron intake will work fine,it just won't provide maximum performance. The QJet will work great with either intake.

I run a 280/288 in my 402 with a rpm intake, holley 750 carb, headers, msd igniton, 410 gears and m20 tranny. It makes strong power and works well with my combo. This is just my opinion but with your gears and wanting to keep it stock looking then I would run the 276/286. Its just a tad smaller and I think it would work better with your gears and stock appearance.

KJ, what are the specs on the 276/286

thanks Donnie

Donny the specs on the 276/286 is 221/230 duration at 50 and 515 lift on the exhaust and intake. I bought my cam from lunati and paid about 170 with shipping and got it 2 days later. If you need the phone number for lunati let me know. KJ I also forgot to add that it is on a 112 lsa.

do you know the stall of the stock convertor?
and what would you consider to be a mild convertor.

That cam is no good :D I had a B+M 2400 Holeshot converter with that cam and I thought it was just about right. My combo has changed completely, when I get some time slips I will change my sig.

I run the 2400 Holeshot B&M stall as well.
Stock convertor is probably around 1500-1600 stall speed

would their be any problems running that 2400 stall on the street or should i keep the stock one in place?
please educate me.

Donny,the 2400 B&M unit works perfect for a street car..I even used it when I had 2.56's (now I have 3.31's)
The higher stall puts the motor into the powerband quicker and improves the throttle response.
