i have disk brakes in the front and drum brakes in the back on my 68 SS396 chevelle. for some reason when i hit the brakes, the car doesnt respond right away even when i chance the disk and drum pads. i was told once that it may have to do with vacuum problems. is that true or if not, what can i do fix the problem and be able to stop the car real fast.

how much vacuum are you getting? Need about 15 inches to operate a vacuum assisted booster.

If you have low vacuum it will effect your brakes,I only have 7" of vacuum so I use vacuum canister and I drive mine all the time with no problems,or you can add a vacuum pump do a search on them plenty of ideas and they work.

If you have power steering you can also put in a "Hydroboost system" and really be able to stop the beast quick......

How do you measure or know how much vacuum you are getting?

jegs sells a acumulator can with all the fixings except a gauge for like 60 bucks..mine works great..fat cams aren't conducive to manifold vacuum, but man they sound cool... graemlins/thumbsup.gif
