Check the trim tag on the top left of the firewall. It'll have the paint code on the second line towards the right side. See http://www.chevellestuff.com/1972/chevelle/tags/72-k.htm for some examples. There are two factory blue colors in 1972, code #24 for Ascot Blue and code #26 for a darker Mulsanne Blue. There was also a fairly common special paint coded "Carolina Blue" that was popular from 69 through 72 that's a lighter, baby blue. If that was the original color the trim tag will either have a dash character (-) for the paint code, blanks for the paint code, or something like 926-98371 on the tag indicating the DuPont mixing formula for the color. Some sample 72 blue Chevelles can be found http://www.chevellestuff.com/1972/chevelle/gallery/index.htm and http://www.chevellestuff.com/1972/chevelle/gallery/gallery_more.htm.
