: Using No-Hop Bars
OutCast Apr 3rd, 08, 12:17 AM I just got a 12 bolt diff, and it came with no-hop bars...http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.asp?N=700+400272+115+308534&autoview=sku.
What would I sacrifice in ride or handling by using these on a street driven car ? I plan to race it as much as I can, but do want to drive on street on occaision.
Any personal experiences or ideas would be appreciated. :)
Thank you, John
gotago Apr 3rd, 08, 12:44 AM If they're anything like the SSM or Jegsters I'd say no. I just put Jegsters on mine and I don't notice any difference in ride or handling but when you launch it you can feel it lift.
bones454 Apr 3rd, 08, 7:31 AM watch your pinion angle!!!!!!
mine was WAY!!!! off after the installation of those, had to use some adjustable upper control arms to correct it
Schurkey Apr 3rd, 08, 10:01 AM I've had 'em on my 'Camino for years. The pickups are a special case, they don't have as much clearance over the rear axle and so I put a couple of dents into the bed, and therefore had to install some coil spring spacers to lift the rear to stock ride height.
You'll have no problem with a car. Be aware that panic braking may skid the rear wheels. The bars increase the load on the rear wheels when accelerating--they do the opposite under braking. In normal use this is a non-issue.
If you're installing them on a virgin axle--you just take care when drilling the holes in the axle webs so your pinion angle is correct to begin with. Since they're already installed--yeah, you'll want to verify that your pinion angle is correct.
BIG EVIL CHEVELLE Apr 3rd, 08, 10:59 AM I have them and I'm happy with them. adjusting the pinion angle to install them raised an eyebrow, but so far no problems
ssal396 Apr 3rd, 08, 1:02 PM I have had them on my car since I got it (12 years) and have never noticed any ill effects from them..
OutCast Apr 4th, 08, 1:15 AM They were installed on this axle, and run on a 70 ??? Chevelle.
Thanks for the feedback.

Dan Orgill Apr 4th, 08, 4:35 PM Vince, you forgot to add how you did that all in 15 min. with your bare hands....just like I did on mine.
Good times.
Not.
Brettd85 Apr 4th, 08, 6:01 PM John, If you dont have your car raised up in the back, I would say just run the stock setup. I would only run those if I got wheel hop IMHO.

Nah, maybe more like 20 min ;). Here's some of the massaging that was needed on one of them. But hey, they work great!

Derek69SS Apr 5th, 08, 7:54 AM I'd only use them if your car is lifted from stock height in the rear...
