So this summer my chevelle is getting painted with a roll bar installed. and trust me which ever color I decide effects the color of my interior. it was origialy tuxedo black with a litgh blue interior so if it stay black I will go light blue or black interior but if I do the other color it will stay black. so here are the paint pick let me know which you like better.

Rantheman Apr 3rd, 08, 7:53 PM yeah I am thinking black too. but the candy apple peral had my attention
MalibuSeaS Apr 3rd, 08, 11:00 PM You gotta go with black. It reminds me of Falfa's 55 in "American Graffiti" (especially with the roll bar).
TonyGilliam Apr 11th, 08, 5:21 AM I will say black.. but if you do black; go with Du Pont Super Black Single stage.. no other black is as dark and rich.
MarkM Apr 11th, 08, 9:54 AM Black won't date the car.
Hard to beat for resale too.
Rantheman Apr 12th, 08, 5:39 PM dupont super black eh any one have pics of this color

no problem man.. I am only one opinion though. Go talk to body shops or paint stores. Of course if you talk to PPG they will tell you there stuff is better..lol. But if you talk to Du Pont; they will definately tell you this is the best black to go with and the easiest to maintain.
good luck!

pHrail Apr 24th, 08, 12:08 AM Black for sure!
MalibuSeaS Sep 27th, 08, 10:10 AM I like this color but if I have to chose between the 2 colors offered I would go with the stock color (black). Whichever color I chose, I would try to make it a lighter color interior.

bdc1013 Sep 27th, 08, 2:37 PM you said if the paint is black the interior will be light blue and if you paint it that candy apple color youre going to do the interior in black.... paint the car that candy apple color! no light blue interior in a black car please!
thunderstruck507 Dec 3rd, 08, 5:12 PM black, I think that other color is kinda ugly
DHodge15 Dec 3rd, 08, 9:37 PM I like Black with blue interior it looks different.
ed1le Dec 8th, 08, 4:15 PM I'm digging the Candy Apple Pearl
jhilts Dec 9th, 08, 1:49 PM I love black, but it shows scratches so much. I can't bring myself to take my 67 black. I wish I could.
Derek69SS Dec 9th, 08, 1:59 PM I vote black.
My Caprice wagon is very close to that candy pearl color (Dark Cherry Metallic) and the color looks great in direct sunlight, but looks like hell in any other lighting... it looks "dirty" even when it's clean, unless the sun hits it perfectly to make the color pop.
SPARK69 Dec 10th, 08, 9:12 AM Black would look killer.....best of luck to you...
Morin69ss396 Dec 10th, 08, 10:00 AM I vote black !!
ray1970ss Dec 10th, 08, 12:30 PM Black with red interior!!!
dutchinndj Dec 10th, 08, 12:34 PM I like the black idea but there are so many black Chevelles already. It shows EVERYTHING, too. Instead of a candy apple read do a deep, rich Brandywine!
middletownchevelle Dec 16th, 08, 11:16 AM another for the black with a dark red interior!
dirtlips408 Dec 16th, 08, 1:05 PM Black all the way...
6ELKY7 Dec 16th, 08, 1:14 PM The pearl gives a different impression that almost needs fatermarket, oversized wheels and a lower stance.
Black looks better on a stock stance, traditional sized wheel car.
And it's sinister, especially with a red interior.
rayzer666 Dec 18th, 08, 12:00 AM The black had me at Hello.
Carnutz70 Jan 1st, 09, 9:36 PM Black cars are always dirty, I will not have another black car.
blwnrat Jan 1st, 09, 10:31 PM The candy pearl would grab more attention than a straight black would.Besides look in any magazine and you don't see a lot of black cars because black does not show well in magazine, not saying its going in a mag, but that is there opinion on black.(For the record I own 3 black cars now daily drivers love black but the candy pearl would get more attention )
blwnrat Jan 1st, 09, 10:39 PM Oh yeah remember with black your bodywork must be perfect I mean perfect or it will show every wave or ripple in the body.Ive been doing body and paint for 25 years and the amount of cars Ive seen painted black that looked horrible Ive lost count.Even if you have new panels on your car that does not mean there are ready for black.Black is not forgiving when it comes to bodywork.Just a little something to keep in mind before you paint.
PRO 48 Fleetline Jan 2nd, 09, 1:39 AM Green Tea met off a new Honda CRV would look amazing i just painted my engine this color witch will be body color aswell a real classy feel to it!

bigblockwagon Jan 3rd, 09, 3:10 PM As long as bodywork is really good, black all the way:thumbsup:

Bob's66396 Jan 4th, 09, 11:32 AM You got to go with the black.It's a timeless color..Bob
klunker Jan 5th, 09, 10:31 PM I had a Dark Purplish Blue car, close to black, never again. If you want to drive the car around stay away from black, it will ALWAYS look dirty.
Worst color, Black,
2nd worse color, Resale Red, So over done.
There were lots of neat colors on these cars, turquise, golds, blues, think out of the box.
But in the end its your car, do as you see fit.
iharting May 2nd, 09, 10:40 AM If headlights were eyes and front grilles mouth and teeth, Chevelles (except ´68, ´69 and ´70 ones) were "smiling" cars, so in my opinion they don´t match very well with black (i.e. Mopars are "agressive" cars, take a look on a black ´69 Charger). In contrast, with today´s colors they accept very well metallic and candy paints, not regarding if it´s a cold or warm color, so they look fine with metallic blue (as my ´71 does), green, red, and extreme light colors like yellow and orange!. From your colors, I go with Candy red, but If the car was mine, I would go with metallic "bottle" green, and in both cases (red or green), I would go with beige upholstery. Cars are like boxes which people visually enjoy to "open", and that´s why red and black upholstery makes (for me) a terrible visual effect, where the red seems to drain down to the inside of the car, instead of beige, which "brights" or "blazes" when the eye stops looking the outside of the car and "opens" the box to see the interior. żBlack with light blue interior? Never for me in this case, because it would look like a Pontiac! Paint and interior are expensive jobs, so, they should be intended to make a great impression and last for a long time! If black option wins, then I´ll go with beige or red interior. Best regards!
droptop396 Jun 8th, 09, 4:33 PM I like my cars like my coffee...........Candy Apple Peral. ;)
Black all the way!
Henry Ford had the right idea. - You can have it any color as long as it's Black.
We had a 1967 Caprice when I was a kid Black with Light Blue interior Big Block and LOTS of options, cool car! very different color scheme.
I vote Black and Blue.

boardwalk67 Jun 8th, 09, 4:44 PM HAD A 67 GROWING UP THAT WAS CANDY APPLE AND THAT WAS A COLOR THAT STOOD OUT, YOUR CAR IS GONNA BE DIFFERENT THAN MOST OTHER CARS YOU SEE ON THE STREET, MIGHT AS WELL KEEP IT DIFFERENT, TELL ME HOW MANY CHEVELLES YOU SEE THAT ARE CANDY. IM WORKING ON MY 67 SEDAN NOW AND AM PROBABLY GOING TO GO CANDY BLUE, TRICK CARS GET TRICK COLORS.
MarkM Jun 20th, 09, 4:50 PM Candy colors are outdated, as are pearls. JMO.
Matty B Jun 20th, 09, 6:02 PM If you do black, make everything black and change the gloss % of different parts. Example, body full shine but the window trim in satin and stripes or any graphics in matte. I plan to do that but body color is going to be some version of very dark gunmetal (at night itll look black) or itll be a pearl black with alot of silver and flake underneath a candy black coating... Personally Im not a fan of the brandywine hues, they are nice but I dont think they look good on most cars.
Blitz Jul 7th, 09, 10:47 PM Good grief, this voting spanned OVER a year! I hope it's painted or at least decided by now.
...voted against the grain by the way.
Den's396 Aug 25th, 09, 10:28 AM Which color do you think I choose???????????????????
NorCal68 Sep 22nd, 09, 1:22 AM Another vote for Black!
70 ELK Oct 7th, 09, 11:42 AM After reading this thread--and many others--trying to decide what color to paint my 70 Camino (it is now its original Black Cherry), I know that I know nothing. Can someone define what a "candy" color is? I know I do not like the "pearl" look, personally, though my wife loves it.
Guess I'm trying to decide between what we used to call "Candy Apple Red" and the crimson color of the OU football team; anyone know how to get a paint code for "OU Red?"
BTW, I'm an Aggie (the original Black Cherry perfectly matched the A&M decals in the back glass), so I'm not changing allegiance, just color, and I love red.
Thanks for the help!
87caprice Oct 7th, 09, 6:12 PM I think you should do the Candy Apple Peral or should it be Pearl. What "pearl" is put in that Candy Apple to make it look Black Cherry like that? Dont do black, everyone does black. Go different.
Blitz Oct 8th, 09, 1:15 AM ...Dont do black, everyone does black. Go different.
My exact thoughts. Although black looks very good. mehhh
sunk72 Oct 12th, 09, 10:14 PM black!
Beaux Oct 13th, 09, 11:50 AM Dont do black, everyone does black. Go different.
Not true.
Based on what I see at shows, what I see on the roads and a recent poll that was done by DuPont - EVERYONE and THEIR MOMMA is doing silver / grey or shades thereof. I dont hear everyone complaining about cortez and other silver hues being everywhere. Which is very odd because they are, literally, EVERYWHERE. Old cars, new cars, cars in between. If you want THE most common color scheme used, THE most popular color scheme hands down, the most overdone and common color scheme - HANDS DOWN then it would be silver or a variation thereof.
And on the flip side, just because "resale red" was mentioned - its one of the LEAST common colors out there. Its jsut the stock cranberry / black combo is stuck in everyones heads from old days until now. Which I now understand completely....because red sticks out in seas of silver, charcoal, graphites, etc. :D
My car is going to go back to red / black. But thats because it will aid in my being overlooked amongst the Chevelle crowd. "Oh, another red car...." and folks will stop looking at that point...and miss the chassis, frame, suspension, BB tagged to look like a 396....etc.
Anyhow, just pointing out that in the real world, based on numbers and what I see (and given I am in the throws of choosing an exact paint color I pay attention like a hawk) - the most common color out there, without exception, is silver and shades thereof. Black is being repainted silver. Red is be.ing repainted silver. Pretty soon black and silver will be appreciated immensley once again. A beacon in the shades of grey.
BLURAT Oct 16th, 09, 12:34 AM Your frame and all the work looks fantastic. Paint that 65 Black...Black body against an interior of blue, red, maroon, tan, even ivy green would be sweet...just my 38 cents worth. Shawn
Blitz Oct 16th, 09, 11:10 PM Although I love black cars, I think I'd rather be silver than red. Then again, plans for my 65 don't involve any of those. Then again...again, it won't be a stock or stockish color at all. And to be honest, from what I see most folks forget about half the "color" of the car...The Interior! I guess I'm going for something less common in there too. (The black, red or even sometimes green). I think Apple will be close enough to black (especially at night) yet just off the blend in black mark to stand out.
