The deal fell thru on the World Products SPII's I was going to get. My stocker heads have like 160cc runners and I am thinking about going Vortec possibly unless you guys think a Dart Iron Eagle or similar might be better for my heavy truck. Is 200cc too much for my 99% street driven combo?. Right now I don't want to touch the cam thats in it. I'm thinking probably a Holley carb, 2500 stall and better heads but not sure which ones. I prefer to only spend $500-$700 on the heads. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

WOW, everybody says Vortecs!. I guess my truck is about 500 more pounds than a Chevelle. I realize I need a special intake, rocker arms and valve covers. I have a few questions. (1)What specific casting should I look for or to avoid?. (2)If I ever decided to go a tad bigger with my cam will vortecs handle anything over .480 lift?. (3)Any known probs with Vortecs?. (4)Should I have any machine work done to them?. Last question, is it wise buying Vortecs off ebay?. Thanks

Just built one. You would not believe the torque for a 355. Just stay mild on the cam and I would use a Q-jet.

You do need the Vortec-specific intake. Any center bolt valve cover will do, and if you're not picky, I have some ugly stock ones I'll sell you cheap! Rocker arms will be Vortec specific as well - the ones with the guides built into the tips. If you're not gonna go crazy with it you could just use the factory style.

Vortecs have been said to not like more than about .480 because of interference with the spring retainer and guide. I guess you couldn't go much over the .480, though ours is a .490 cam and has been okay.

We had ours on a dyno and the operator looked at me after he had run the motor through it's paces and said, "This thing's got a lot of torque!" I'll have to look at the sheet to see what it was, possibly 350 lbs/ft.

Good luck, dude. I like our combo. Check the link below for pics and stuff.
