: Hows this color combo?

well i scuffed up the hood and shot it with a few colors to see how i would like it. i didnt fix any of the imperfections and i shot it outside so its a little rough. plus i didnt wait for my tape window so i pulled a little of the silver. but, its going to get sanded off anyways, so it doesnt really matter.

the silver is the same one that i used on the suspension, and the red on the left is spi's torch red. the one on the right is a mix of the spi red (whats on the frame) and the spi torch 1:1. the one on the left, the torch, is a little more orange, whereas the right is a little more pink. not sure which one im going to go with.

the clear layed down pretty good, but i really hosed it on a i think i got a little urethane peel as opposed to the orange peel. i had the fan really narrow and it was pushing the clear to the sides as i sprayed. it would even up, but not totally. next time im going to widen up the fan a lot.

sooooooo, what do you guys think about the color combo? before i sprayed it, i thought i would want the silver darker, but now im not sure. i dont know how im going to make the stripes yet, but this was a good way to compare the colors, and i actually like it.

ANY!!!! opinions are welcome

thanks, Tim

btw.... top pic is without clear....

I like those colors especially the silver. I agree that it sounds like you should definitely widen out the fan for sure. With most spray guns a 6-8 inch wide fan is a good starting point. Some of the better guns can handle more than that. The key is to keep the material even throughout the fan. Hope this info helps.

looks good... I like the darker silver and the general idea of a single stripe, but keeping the outside edges looking like the factory stripes...

Can't see too much color variation... The right seems a little darker (less orange), and looks good to me...

I also liek the idea of spraying actual color on the car... I was going to buy "touch up" paint, and spray a few model cars so I could get a comparison, BUT not too much more work to spray some actual body parts... Hmmm???

thanks for the replies and comments so far. i really need to widen the fan. i shot it with a sata 3000 rp digital, so its a hoser to begin with. i only had it about a quarter turn and its capable of 1 3/4, so it was REALLY narrow. i think that was my main issue with the metallics as well.

spi makes a darker red, and i might shoot some samples with another mix. i think its too dark for an all over, but it may just be right mixed 1:1 with something else.

well i went to the goodguys show today in del mar, and i have to say that their are waaaayyyyy too many reds out there. it makes it so hard to choose a color when their are so many options. the problem im still having is how the reds flip colors when shaded differently. some are red with an orange cast, and some are red with a blue cast. originally i thought that a lot of reds had a pink cast to them, but after talking to some guys and having them point out reds with blue tones, they are the same ones i have been calling pink.

if you look at the second pic in the post, right below the top of the tree (lower in the pic, but actually above the tree... confusing enough??) is a band of color ive been calling pink. but, this i think this is what most guys are calling blue.

i know its hard to tell with the pics, but am i crazy? anybody have any experience with shooting or choosing reds?

Thanks, Tim

Hey just fall in line and clone it like all the others, now it will stand out in a row of Chevelles! With unique color and stripe combos you don't fit in with the rest.

im not sure how soreback saw them since my aol homepage was deleted by aol to save some money. let me see if i can find them.

btw, i think the cars now going to be black with the same silver. ive cut on the frame so much that it needs to be repainted. i now have to make a new decision on colors.
