Refinished the room over my garage about three months ago, finally getting around to taking some pics. Aside from just a good cleanup and repaint and decorate, we added an office in the corner (view through the french doors) and hung a 50" Plasma on the wall. Seem to spend a lot more time in here now then I do in the garage underneath - finishing the Chevelle.

PS - Still need to mod that old server to accomodate the DVD player, cable box and hide the wiring. Didn't realize just how obnoxious it is until I saw it in the pics - definite eyesore!

Technically, it is part of the house - but also part of the garage. I really just wanted another garage, but the way the ground slopes off on the one side of my property it was a no-brainer - build the new garage on the low side, attached to the house and use the upstairs for a big open room. Literally, for the cost of laying two 24' long end walls of 12" block, a couple steel I-beams and a pair of gluelam beams upstairs, I ended up with a three car garage and a 768 sq ft great room. I've noticed a fair amount of garages going up now with high ceilings and full living space built-in in the process. In construction, the two most expensive parts of the structure are the foundation and the roof construction - everything in the middle is just filler and imagination.

That is beautiful work there, but if my garage had an "upstairs", it would be either a greenhouse or a woodworking workshop. Either one would free space in my house for real house things.

I wish I had a garage you have a minni mansion compared to what I have man I need you to come here and build the mine I had the frame work up but my help never showed and with me being disabled well the city made me take the frame work down so I have a harbor freight portable tarp garge in my back yard.

This project took me about 4 years to build and finish. I did everything except the foundation and the rough framing. Tile work, fiinsh carpentry, electrical is all mine.

This one is 24' x 32'. If had to do over, 24' deep still works but would have stretched the width another 4' to 36'. Have the prints here somewhere. Keep in mind this was added to the house on one end, so really only had to do basically three walls and a 8' section across the back. Biggest feature I wanted was the cathedral ceiling upstairs. Was very easy to do. They just built the end wall on the deck from 2x6's and stood up the entire framed center section. Built a framed inner section at the same time aginst the exisiting house and set the gluelam beams to carry the roof framing. The upstairs is all 2x6 framing w/ 2x12's for the floor joists and roof rafters. Wood ceiling is 6" wide #2 spruce fencing tongue and groove board, beaded on one side, plain on the other - I installed it plain side out.

I did have a stair case along the back of the garage from the deck down to the driveway, but eliminated it two years ago when I redid the deck. Now that area is just perfect for parking my utility trailer out of sight and out of the way.

Hey Ken, actually that's a gas burner. But, that is the chair to sit in when it's lit. Wouldn't call it a nap though, more like a short coma nowadays. Kids are busting on me all the time - hit 50 and finally mastered the art of a good power-nap. Anytime, anyplace.

But I didn't see inside any garage..

GRN69CHV

Trust me you don't want to see inside this garage - right now. Chevelle is apart and up on stands (again) in bay on the left; middle bay is full of parts from the Chevelle, furniture (daughter's) and left over appliances from the last house flip I did; third bay (far right) is set up as my tool room/shop area. The shop area also is stuffed w/ too much junk that needs a home (refrigerator and range). Intend to get this all cleaned out soon. Until then, you only get to see the outside.

PS - Mike, on your site the pics of your '69 in the portable garage (??). I had one of the those set up on the driveway when I was painting the Chevelle. Was great. I did majority of the bodywork and all the primer in it, so kept the dust from getting everywhere in the garage. When I was done with it, sold it to a freind of mine who set it up at his house to do the same thing. Those portable structures are priceless.

Where'd you hide the trap door? And I don't see the I-beam with the 1/2T electric hoist either. Gotta have them for storing engines up there. ;)

I'm jealous now, thanks. :)

Actually, there is a fridge in the toolroom. Unplugged for now. My son was supposed to take it to school. Guess I could plug in back in and stock it up. But, I usually just make the two mile trip up to Vince's house - save for the gasoline, it's cheaper!
