Can anyone tell me if Super Chevy (Atlanta) will allow me to run my 72 Chevelle without C-clip eliminators? Was gonna run the DOT class on Sunday and would like to make some passes on Friday (test&tune) with slicks and open headers. I e-mailed SC for this information. They answered that I could run DOT on Sunday and still run with slicks and open exhaust on Friday. But they didn't comment on C-clips. I've got Moser axles and don't think car is strong enough to break them. Car runs 11.80s. I'm just not sure about their rules and don't want to make a wasted trip. Thanks

They don't do a whole lot of tech inspection on DOT cars. If you show up with slicks though, they're probably going to check for driveshaft loop at a minimum. I doubt they bust you for c-clips, but you never know.

I doubt very seriously you could hurt an axle either. Most of the other driveline stuff is much weaker, like "U" joints, ring and pinion and spider gears in the posi-trac unit. You didn't mention whether you have an automatic or stick. The spider gears or "U" joints usually go first in an automatic trans car and R&P in a stick.

Danny, I'm not saying they won't BUT...
I've NEVER been checked for a driveshaft loop or C-clips at Atlanta and I've run mid 10s last fall at the Year One event.
However, I did get busted after one run for not wearing a race (fire) jacket.
Note...I do have a loop and don't use c-clips but the point was I've never been checked.

Thanks alot for the replies. I dont have a loop either but I've got a 3" X-pipe system that crosses about 6-8" back from the front of the driveshaft. If I have to, I'll install the exhaust and maybe get thru that way. I just wanted to get some comparisons on Friday.(3"X vs open) It is a 400TH with a tight 10" converter. Thanks again.

An X-pipe does not qualify for driveshaft containment. If they say you need a loop, check and see an X-pipe, it's not gonna pass.

SCS runs under NHRA rules here. "C" clip eliminators are required on any car running 10.99 or quicker and any car with a spool. IIRC, a DS Loop is required at 13.99 with slicks and 12.99 with any tire.
