: Need Brake Booster info real quick
I have aproblem with valve cover clearance and my brake booster. Is there a cheap way to replace the booster with a smaller one? I have heard an S-10 ill work but no details. I do not want to start cutting and grinding if I don't have as time is of the essence. Anyone have a solution besides going to manual brakes?
ACES-70 Aug 5th, 04, 2:20 PM what size booster you have now? wat year Chevelle ?
Its a 69 and it has the stock booster. I beleive it 11" in diameter. I think somethign around 8" would work with the proper moubnting.
They make a small diameter booster. It has a dual diaphragm so you still have the boost. I put one my 64 Chevelle and it works fine. The stock booster was small but not enough boost.
I just went to a local rebuilder and he took one off the shelf. I 'm not sure what the applaction was.
I was at the three day cruise in Costa Mesa Ca. ABC brakes had a dsplay there. All they said was its a Ford dual diaphragm booster 7 3/4" diameter, could be truck application.
Yes this is what I'm trying to find out. Anyway you could ask that person what it came off of?
Bob West Aug 5th, 04, 9:55 PM I have a 72, using tall stamped steel valve covers with about a 1/2" clearance. I can get them off and on okay with a little twisting and turning.

stainless steel brakes sells the small boosters.
I actually found one out of a 84 Bonneville similar to the one in the picture on the last post. Was thinking of how to retro fit it. I would have to cut the stock booster away from the mounting flange on the back an bolt the late model one to that. The the rod end would have to be changed. Anyone try this? Not sure if its worth the effort, how much was the booster from Stainless?
You can buy a dual diaphragm small diameter booster from www.true-connections.com (http://www.true-connections.com) that will fit your stock mounting points. Give them a call.

harleighguy Aug 8th, 04, 12:57 AM Why don't you convert to a "boosterless" setup and run a Hydroboost instead??
Hey I have heard about this but can't remeber what its about. Is there a site to look this up at?
John_Muha Aug 10th, 04, 1:00 AM 79 T/A booster works with minor mods. Been runing mine for 5 years.
Whittaker Aug 10th, 04, 1:21 PM Does a dual diaphram work better with more vaccum or less? Mine from True Connections on my other car is a dual and fits nice in my 66 BB. But the brakes are a bit touchy. Not sure why.

Bob Tiley Aug 10th, 04, 8:04 PM Can you change the valve covers? I have the tall Moroso valve covers on my 69 big block and they clear by about 1/2" and I can remove them also.

It was a conversion unit. (they call the booster a plate) the plate was new so they don’t have a real application. They said look at 1978-84 Toyota Corolla. I paid $175.00 I think it should be about $225. They gave me a deal becuse they rebuilt my old unit but it was out of warranty 90 days. I had never driven the car.
They will ship you one.
