I'm installing a Pertronix into the stock distributor on a '70 Elky. A prior owner installed a new engine harness with a wire for an HEI that has full 12 volts. The cloth covered resisotr wire is gone. Can I use this wire to the coil or do I need to add a resistor or do something else to make this work? Thanks!

Pertonix is full 12 volt so no resistor wire is needed.

I wasn't sure, as I've installed them in the past and used the resistor wire.

I put a Petronix in my 70 LS-5 M-22 El Camino a few years ago. I used the resistor wire, It is like a rev limiter. 3200 RPM it starts to break up.
I may change it this year ???

I put the Pertronix set up (3 years ago) in my former '67 Firebird 400. I remember that the instructions stated that you need to measure the impedance of the coil to determine if you should disconect the resistir wire or not. I don't remember the details but I called the tech support line and they explained it to me pretty well.
