I am installing a mallory 6al ignition. my question, where is the best place to get a switched power source from? is one of the wires that is currently attached to the coil a switched power source that i could use. thanks for any help you can give me.

I'd run a wire from the IGN terminal on the fuse block. That's also where you would source a HEI distributor power.

You can use the original wire to the coil with the 6al. It's only used as a switch to turn the box on/off. The 6al has a separate constant power source. That should go to the horn relay, junction block, or some other constant power source through a proper size fuse.
