My new LED tail light's for my 66 hit the inner clear tail light diffuser or reflector when I re-install everything. I take it that the clear diffuser lens should be left out to make everything brighter thru the red lens in the rear..????

On my '66 wagon I did NOT use the diffuser lens. There is not enough room for both it and the LED panel.
BTW...I really like the results of this conversion! I've also done it to my '70.

Wild Bill: Did you glue or seal the LED lights into the rear red lens before installing? How do the LED lights stay put without jiggling around? Do they just squeeze between the lens and housing and stay there?

Also: I'm an Islip guy transplanted to CT. ..Also used to work at Islip speedway back in the 60's..Yea Islip..! Also drag raced there..

You are correct Bob. They will be much brighter and my instuctions said to remove the clear diffusser or they would not fit.

OK-Diffusers are out. Did you silicone the LED's to the housing itself before installation so they won't move around?

Bob,
The wagon LED panels I'm sure are a different shape than the ones manufactured for a coupe...mine run lengthwise up/down and are a different P/N than yours.
But, regardless, installation is similiar.
I choose to nestle the panels in a bead of clear silicone caulk at the top and bottom ends to keep them from bouncing around.
Can't see it with the red lenses installed...left is 1157 bulb; right is LED.
