after all my calculating and planning I decided to scrap the small block and bought a big block. Figured instead of spending bookoo bucks on small block parts I'd just get a 454 and run a nice hydraulic cam and compression ratio and get the same power. Now to find accessory brackets :D Anyone have any problem running a stout TH350 behind a big block?

Good for you! you will love it, I did the same. March makes a nice set of brackets and pulleys, I like mine.....but spendy. Had a 350 trans and fragged it at the strip, but was probably how I abused it with my "dont have a clue burn out proceedure". Lots of folks have had great service from a well biult 350.

My 400 made 500ft-lbs on the dyno and a fresh but stock turbo 350 has held up for 2 years. I don't put alot of miles on the car but run it hard when I do drive it. My friend had a stock turbo 350 behind a 600 hp+ 502 and went through 3 transmissions before upgrading it and it has gone 2 years since the upgrades with no problems.

Well its supposed to be a heavy duty 500hp tranny. I guess I will find out if I break it. If so then I will upgrade to a TH400. Now to find out specifics on the engine. I looked at Mortek and here is what they have 14015445...454.......78-90...2 or 4 bolt
I know its a 2 bolt which is fine since I want to make it a mild street not insane like I was going to do with the 350/383 I was going to build. Should I assume that it has peanut port heads on it given the years? Not real familiar with Big Block setup, is 400-420 with 9-9.5:1 compression easily obtainable?

I just pulled the th350 out of mine last november after pounding on it for 4.5 years and it still worked great,as far as I know all it had was a fresh rebuild,I installed a BM shift kit and 11" BM converter, took me to many high 11,low 12, 1/4 mile passes. Your HP numbers you're looking for are easily attainable with that compression.

Thanks Robert,

That makes me feel better about the purchase, I know I got a good deal. Just don't have alot of BBC experience. Tooling around the site helps alot but there are a few questions I just can't find the answers to. Hopefully it doesn't have peanut port heads on it but we will see.

Joe, welcome to the 'dark side'.

Like Robert, one of the local racers has run a T350 for ever. Usually 3-4 season before it needs a tear down. He runs 1/8s at 6.99 and wheels up everytime, so it's, what a 10.90 car?

Anyway older units are better, 5 clutches in top gear and an aftermarket intermediate sprag and you're good to go. I wouldn't think twice about running a T350 at your level.

I don't mean to sound ignorant, but what does Peanut butter and the "Dark side" have to do with scattering TH350's. I'm working on my third TH350 right now with a mild small block. Keep blowing up sprags and input shafts.

I'm glad for you, you'll be going fast instead of wanting to like the rest of the small block possey..... :D

They are referring to the Big Block users as being the "Dark Side" The crunch peanut butter thing is just a metaphor for being different.

I had been looking at Alan Groves brackets. They look great just didnt want to have to shorten the AC lines for the passenger side compressor mount. Turns out the guy I got the engine from gave me everything that was on it. Including all the bracket, only thing missing is the AC bracket. So its either hunt down the AC bracket or get a whole new setup.
