Does anybody know what is the largest tube header you can fit in a 69ss chevelle (stock engine compartment innerfenderwells and all) What would the part # be? Thanks for any info, Mark.

I run Hooker Super Comps, #2265 in my '70...2 1/8" primary with 36" collectors. One tube on each side does go outside the frame rail. Slight trimming of the inner fender is required for clearance.

Bill,

How do you like your Hooker Super Comps? I just bought a pair myself, but haven't installed yet.

thanks, Dan

thanks, Dan Dan,
They're great! Plug access is fine on all cylinders except #5 which I solved by shortening a standard plug socket. No plug wire issues with 90* boots, either. And I've got Dart Pro I heads which have the exhaust ports raised .400
Note that you do have to slightly trim the lower rear portion of the inner fenders for that one tube that wraps around the outside of the frame. I use plastic inners so that was an easy task for the Sawall.
Headers were easy to install, also.

Wow...maybe I should have gone with the 2.125"...my 2.0" headers require me to loosen the header to get the plug wires off...I am using the vertex plug wires, standard length Autolite Race plugs and have the 310cc Dart Pro1 heads with the raised ports.

Had to dent one pipe to clear the steering, cut the extra length off the bolts for the control arms, and file away the passenger side of the transmission "wing" to clear the header on my 69

Well i planned on using the 2" part #2217 because i did not want to cut anything up but it sounds like more trouble than the 2 1/8 ones!

Thanks for the tip. I just purchased a set of plastic inners myself from OPG (hope they fit). The Hooker Super Comps came highly recommended for my setup, 402 .10 over with a 671 and dual 600cfm's. I am getting close to getting the project complete and am getting very excited.

thanks, Dan

Hello,

Hooker Super Competition 2 inch part # 2217 on my 70 with 454 and stock heads. Those headers have been on there for 17 years and fit like a glove. No denting required anywhere on the headers.

454 sits on stock height Moroso solid motor mounts. Servicing the starter (full size starter), oil filter and spark plugs are no problem.

The headers do have road rash on the bottom of the tubes since they hang below the chassis, but my car sits at stock height so it is rare when headers touch the pavement.

depends on what you are willing to spend. try lemons headers he mad some stepped tube for my 69 camaro with power steering and they are the best fitting headders i have ever had and they are 2 1/4 inch down to a 4 inch collector then reduced to 3 1/2 you can see them on my web site . i have seen 2 1/8 on a fewe local chevelles.
