: Is This A Fair Price For My Heads?

I'm going to be selling off my heads to go with a pair of 360cc aluminum R-Port heads. I'm not really sure how much my current heads are worth. Here are what the heads have done to them.

"206" Casting Heads
Closed Chambered (106cc)
Soft Valve Seats
Machined For Teflon Valve Seals
Intake & Exhaust Fully Ported & Gasket Matched
Bowls Professionally Blended
Combustion Chambers Polished
2.19" / 1.88" Valves

The heads are ready to bolt on, they have double valve springs good up around .600" lift. The heads are complete (minus rocker arms). I was thinking about asking $550 + shipping for them....is this a fair price for these heads or am I asking too much?

I should also point out that these heads with a Comp Cams 294S solid flat tappet cam went 12.1 @ 118MPH. That's with me attempting to race with a 4 speed manual transmission and a 1.8 60' time. My motor is 468ci.

How fresh are they? If they don't need rebuilding, it's a good deal at 550$. And I know why you are going to 360's. You are already flowing 312 with your heads if the porting is any good. Well, tight combustion chamber heads are a little shroudy, but it depends if you got the area around the valves swept.

$550 dont sound bad considering what someone would have to put into heads to get them to yours. (valves, springs, porting, larger seats installed, plus the original cost of the heads). The #206 castings also have the smallest chamber at 97cc, great for someone needing to boost comp ratio and were only made for 6/7months.

I agree with Todd on the heads. None of race only cars ever came close to having that big a head on them. My friends 555 cubic in Super E car doesn't even have a set that big on it. What are you doing with the car? Combo?

Thanks for all of your responses. Concerning the heads, the heads are ready to be bolted on and run. I would however suggest ditching the springs that come with the heads and getting a new set matched to your cam (but that goes without saying).

Concerning the 360cc heads. The motor will be mainly drag raced and driven on the weekends for fun. I'm shooting for 12.5-13:1 compression, 312/320 advertised duration solid roller cam with .722"/.722" lift and an 1150 Dominator.

The motor will go in my Corvette first, 4.11 gears, 4 speed. I have a 1970 Camaro that needs a little fixing up and that's ultimately where the motor will end up. The Camaro currently has a narrowed Ford 9" rear end, tubbed to accomodate 15x14 rims, 4.56 gears, spool, strange axles, ladder bar setup, coil over shocks. The Camaro needs some boddy work and the interior re-done. I plan on running a TH400 and transbrake with a 4500-5000 stall converter.

I think the guy's are trying to tell you that your combination may like 305 to 315 or so cc rect. intake port heads better in the long run then the huge 360's.. If you stay with your 468" motor that is?

But I'm not into this type motor combination so may be all wet?

B/c even though I am reasearching a 4.625"B x 4.375"S = 588" standard deck height motor, I am being advised to consider not going over like 335 or so cc ports to work with more of my wanted grunt motor combination??

I agree...
I got 696 HP and 690 TQ out of a box stock set of 325cc Dart Pro I on a 10.5CR 540 topped with a Victor/1050 Dominator.

DITTO on the TOO BIG at 360.. unless your really winging this engine, like 6 to 8k! :D
My 555 has DART 320's ported to 355 intakes and I spin it up to about 7600. I may be on the other end with too small, but one is never sure unless they have deep pocket or lots of parts or both... that's not me. I spec and build my own stuff. :D

Its ashame those heads are closed chamber or Id buy them I already bought my pistons KB257 and they are for open chamber heads.I think 550.00 for a those heads is a good price ready to bolt on.

Feel free to delete this "ad". I know there is a seperate forum for the ads but the purpose of this post wasn't to try to sell the heads it was to get a rough idea of how much these heads are worth.

I'm sure that most of us understand that, but it's easy to disguise a "for sale" ad as a "what's it worth?" post. You'll still get people wanting to buy it from such a post.

Not saying that you're doing this, but many have done it in the past.
