Sounds STOUT! Have you calculated the trap rpms? It seems that 4.56s and a 28" slick are a bit much at the top end. Where did it cross the stripe, 7000 or more? This is an amatuer observation, but most rats repond well to a bit less gear like 4.33 - 4.10, although the 4.10 rats I'm aware of run a bit less cam.

427L88, i have been trying to find that formula for the trap rpms, had along time ago. i have it in my notes somewere, but i have stacks and stacks of notepads,magazines, and binders could take me a month to find. do you have that formula?

I presently running similar combo except with 13:1 comp. and bigger heads but with a Holley 950HP. I am running 456 on 29's at 68-7000 thru the traps. For my heavier car 456 is ok but I'm lightening the car and 411 if certainly a consideration when I get finished with my present .660 cam but eventually will go .700+ cam and them 456 would be perfect so I sit tight for now. What is percentage street/strip use. Alot of carb and low comp. for your combo slanted toward the strip huh?! What car and weight?

Here's some math:

rpms = (mph x gear ratio x 336)/tire diameter

mph = (rpms x tire diameter x 2.96)/(rear gear x 1,000)

These formulas presume no trans or converter slip.

Observe your actual mph through the traps, compare that with your theoretical no-slip rpms, the difference represents efficiency loss, or slip %.

i ran a set stock 3/8 connecting rods with arp wave loc bolts on my old motor and they saw 7000 to 7400 rpm a bunch of times without failing. im just using what i have laying around in the garage.
