I will soon be upgrading to a 12-bolt rear end for my '71 Chevelle. North of it will be the upcoming Muncie 5-speed and a fairly strong street 454. I will be putting 4.10 gears in it.

The car will mainly be driven on street, on highway, anywhere, you name it: it's my daily driver. It may see the track 6 or so weekends in the summer if it's lucky.

I don't want to spend a lot for an uber-performance one but want it to do what it should, but be fairly quiet on the street driving and turning, and SAFE (so no mini-spools or anything).

I'll be using stock axles just to make it drivable until the summer when I get a bit more money and may get new axles (depending on the condition of the ones I get).

Thanks for any help...maybe BGH will chime in up here...if not I may post in transmission forum later..thanks!

Eaton! Love it like nobody's business. My 12 bolt has an Eaton in it I could not be happier. Never slicked it, but it doesn't care about 265 T/As and CalTracs.

Is an OEM GM Eaton w/ new clutches reliable in say a 425HP street car (not that I have one, lol) ?

Thinking of grabbing one at the pick-a-part on half off day.

Has anyone tried a powertrax system or a Detroit Truetrac?

Thinking of grabbing one at the pick-a-part on half off day. I use an Eaton posi (400lbs springs) in my ride. 60' times in signature. I've got ~5,000 street miles and 340 passes on this posi unit with no failures.

I have a Powertrax no-slip in my car.
Has worked well for almost 10K miles, and I bought it used.

Powertrax, just finished the 5th season with it.

But it is Noisy, go with the Eaton based on your requirements and I agree with the rear gear recommendation. 3.42 is what is available in the aftermarket, 3.23 and 3.31 GM gears can be found too.

New Eaton c/w carbon fiber clutches. a bit growly around sharp turns sometimes but I really like the unit.

The Muncie 5-speed will have an OD, so with 4.10s and the OD (think it was .68), the rear will be like a 3.08, so I think I'll be OK there.

Eaton sounds like a pretty good deal then..no wonder I've heard of it so much. Thanks guys.

Not to tread on the the thread but what's the general opinion of a Moroso Brute Strength unit?
