Hello out there................... I have a dumb question. I noticed on the wiring schematic on our 78 El Camino that there are a couple of senders and switches, one each for oil pressure and one each for coolant temp. This is for a 350 we are swapping out on this 78. Originally had a 305 but all we got was an empty engine compartment and a wire harnesses. My question is where do you locate the oil pressure switch and coolant temp switch? And what are the senders. I assume one goes to a dash light and the other is going to gage. Does the coolant temp sender mount on the drivers side head between the 1 and 3 plug? does the pressure switch mount on the manifold next to the distributor? where do the others mount? Is the oil pressure switch and oil pressure sender one in the same or two different units wired in series or parallel. The same for the coolant temp switch? Sorry for my ignorance but could really appreciate the help.

No problem Rooster. there are no dunb questions except the one you didn't ask.

The water temp sender can be either in the front of the manifold or on the hear between 1 and 3 as you pointed out. Oil pressure is usually gotten from just above the oil filter on a big block and I think on my old 350 as well. Some cars have 2 temp senders, one in the block and one for the radiator fan if equipt that way.

I Appreciate the help. That does clear some things up. I noticed the switch I have for the oil pressure did not fit on the engine next to the distributor. I do see a port just above the oil filter though. That would make a more logical location, to test the pressure out of the filter.
