does anyone know if the front grille ss396 emblem has numbers on the back i purchased one which i thought was original but it doesnt have the number on the back that i see in the chevelle assembly manual thanks Dan

This is mine that I'm pretty sure is the original - no numbers on the back.

Mine has 2 part numbers on the back. I bought the car 10 years ago, and it had been somewhat restored 8 years before that, so I have no clue if it is correct or not.

Since it hasn't started raining here yet,I went out and looked at the emblem on my 66.It has what appears to be numbers.I didn't remove it but I could see through the spaces in the grill.For what its worth I personally don't think anybody would ever know the difference.I have the front fender emblem from a friends wrecked 66 and the numbers on it are so small that they are really hard to read. As a side note I have two original in the black and yellow "GM" boxes 409 emblems. Bought at the dealer in 62 since the engine was out of the question,and they have no numbers on them.I think if the grill on someones car ever got damaged,the body shop doing the repairs might get whatever they could to get the car out depending on what was available.Just my .02
