The problem
I turn the key, the motor starts firing, then i let the key go and when it returns to the 'run' position, the motor shuts off. any idea what could cause this? It ran about 5 minutes earlier and now just decided not to....

Some extra info
Just got done putting my dash back in and started it up to make sure it was all wired correctly. It started and i shut it off, but it was in neutral when i thought it was in park (luckily i had my foot on the brake). I shut it off and disconnected the linkage and saw the problem was with the column, so i rotated the column some and the problem was solved. Went to start it up to take it around the block and now i'm having the above problem. Any ideas?

Your Ignition system is only getting power when cranking, probably by the resistor bypass wire from the starter to the + side of the coil
Check your ignition switch is supplying power to the coil when IGN is on

looks as if that was the problem, thanks a lot! now i just gotta track down where the circuit opened up....
