I used black epoxy primer on mine, thinned for use as a sealer. It looks great and has excellent durability.

We use Sherman Williams "Polane" Carbide black. Finish is nearly a dead ringer for original and almost everyone we get to try it, won't use anything else. Stuff is hard as nails, with superior durability and color fastnest.

I will keep those types of chassis paint in mind, but what type of primer do u guys use under them or do u just spray that on bare metal?
Thanx

I used Eastwoods Rust Encapsultor as the primer, right on top of the clean, rust free metal. Once partially dry, I top coated with Eastwoods Chassis Coat Black.... so far, it's SOLID and I'm very happy with the result!

how long has it been since u painted your chassis?
Also, is the rust encapsulator classified as a primer or did you just use it as one?
Thanx

thats exactly what I was planning to do but then people from Eastwood forum told me that the RE is not for bare metal ....it will work
but not recommended...

dp90 and then extreme chassis black for me ...very happy with that ..

btw ...now Eastwood has some new ceramaic type chassis paint ....

use PPG DP90LF epoxy with DP402LF activator reduce 2 to 1 & shoot dries to a semi-gloss finish that's all you need to do.

We use in my shop Glasurit products. We put over all metal products epoxy primer and then proceed to the bodywork and or primer and paint. For the chassis we put alot of time into them starting with the epoxy, bodywork, spray polly, 2K primer and then single-stage paint with about 40-45 percent flattening agent, with Glasurit it goes by weight. We do all of our customer chassis this way and they are perfect, you can wipe it down with cleaners, solvent, brake fluid does not even effect the finish because it is urethane and extremely durable. Good luck.

The stuff I used was 1:1 primer to catalyst for use as a primer and thinned 20% for use as a sealer. I suspect that the reducer allows it to flow out so it's not porous like primer.

I used DP-90 Epoxy Primer and the Eastwood underhood black on my frame. I thought the chassis black looked a little too shiny.

I used chassis black but it really doesnt go on thick or harden. Any paint you dont have to fix / thin and cheap isnt worth it. So I stopped where I am and doing power coating as that doesnt chip or come off easy. That chassis black was scratching but by me working around the car with no front end on it yet.

You might want to call them (Eastwood) back. The RE can be applied to clean, rust-free metal (per the individual at Eastwood I spoke with). It can also be used as a Paint-Over-Rust product like POR-15 but I think you'd get better results putting it on a chassis that at a minimum has been wire-wheeled.

Here's FAQ - Ques. #8 : http://www.rustencapsulator.com/FAQ.htm

Question: Does Rust Encapsulator need to go over rust or can it be applied to bare metal and painted surfaces?
Answer: Rust Encapsulator can be applied over bare metal and painted surfaces. Scuff the surface with 220 grit sand paper or scuff pad, and remove any residue with Eastwood's Pre (http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?itemID=126&itemType=PRODUCT) or acetone. Rust Encapsulator will not adhere well to aluminum.
