I have a 1969 chevelle with a 1972 chevelle 402 BB. My question is I came across a power steering pump for it but it doesnt have a resivor on top of pump, how do you put fluid in, without resivor?

I was told that 72 chevelle Pwr steer pump didnt have resivor. Anyone with insite on this please help.

Not sure if it came with one or not - but I would bet in '72 they DID, as I haven't seen many GM's without a reservoir as part of the pump.

But, it really doesn't matter - you can always install a remote reservoir. Personally, I'd put a pump on that has an integral reservoir.

Ok thanks wasn't for sure, is a remote reservoir a hassle?

Don't know, never had one - but probably not, it's just something else to mount on a fenderwell.

Short water pump BB Chevelles have remote reservoirs, and '68 was the last year for that. Maybe it's from a truck.

All '72 Chevelle PS pumps had reservoir built into/onto the pump. Actually they used a reservoir with the pump embedded inside. Truth is that even the SWP 68 and older BB cars had this design, the only difference is the reservoir was much smaller and an external fill reservoir was added.

Now if the pump you found does not have a reservoir, then either it is a bare pump that needs to be inserted into the proper reservoir (rebuilt pumps are often sold this way), or it is really a Saginaw N-pump setup for a remote reservoir, or it is a later GM type-II pump setup for a remote reservoir. If it has a big round flange on the front it is a bare Saginaw P-pump and just needs the reservoir to plug into.
