I start with a good battery at 12.8V and I drive the car for 60 minutes. Stop and start several times. Then I stop and try and start and just get the solanoid clicking. I check the battery and have 12.6V. I put the charger on and solanoid clicks louder for 30 seconds or so while attempting to start the car and then the car starts. I recheck the battery and get 12.8v. Sounds like the starter or solanoid isn't getting enough juice. Why am I not getting enough to activate the solanoid or turn the starter? Any thoughts??? Bad soanoid or starter?? How can I test to see what they are drawing?? Can the solanoid be tested at all?? I just read another post so I checked battery tonight at 12.6V and turned on ignition and I got 12.4V. Battery sounds good??

John you probably know this but make sure your main ground cable coming off of the battery is connected directly to the block or at least to the alternator bracket and all of your connectios are clean and tight, a loose or dirty connections can really cause some problems....... KEEP US POSTED......

You can do some tests, the first thing (after making sure all four battery cable connections are good) is to check the voltage at the solenoid's "S" terminal AT the time of failure.
However, that is pretty hard to do on a hot engine unless you attach a test wire while the engine is cold and bring it up to where it's easy to get to and cap it off.
Could be bad connections at the neutral safety switch or at several other places, not allowing full voltage through.
That's why so many people fix the symptom by adding a Ford solenoid.
OR you could just go get a new starter w/solenoid and see if those were the cause.

Thanks, I'll do some testing tomorrow.
