Vega67 Mar 26th, 08, 3:18 PM Hello I've heard about this site but never got a chance to check it till now and it looks like I can get some serious knowledge from all you chevelle owners. I just aquired my fathers 67 Chevelle SS which he purchased NEW. I will be needing some help in a range of areas with the chevelle. I lost my father and he did all his own work on the motor which is a 396-375 hp and I reget not paying more attention. I have some knowledge about cars but when it comes to internal motor questions I'm at a lost. Anyway, thank you for letting me post with you and hope you are patient members. I've always said no question is a dumb question. Thanks again, Joe

oldtimebaseballfan Mar 27th, 08, 9:14 PM Hello and welcome Joe. Is the 375 HP engine, the original? If you can document that it is original to the car, it would be very rare.
66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Mar 28th, 08, 11:12 AM Welcome aboard!!
As was said, if that is indeed an ORIGINAL L-78 block, that's a keeper.. only 612 for 67 SS's
Check and see if it has the EG code and car's serial number on the front passenger side deck pad.

Vega67 Mar 28th, 08, 5:25 PM As far I know the block and trans are the original except for the top end of the motor, which has dual quads. Unless he changed it when I was very young, but I remember him always saying it was all orignial. The car has less than 60,000 original miles and has never been in an accident, knock on wood. I will post pictures soon.

No need to guess... just look at the deck pad.. it's either original or it's not.

kivaka Mar 29th, 08, 5:35 PM hey joe welcome to the site, im right over in the homerglen area
fj68malibu Mar 29th, 08, 8:35 PM Welcome. I grew up not far from you, in Worth. If you really want to know if the engine is original, look for the numbers at the front of the passenger side head, on the block pad (unless it's been decked, then there will be nothing there). Post here, and someone will tell you what you've got.
136679ss Mar 29th, 08, 9:07 PM Welcome to Team Chevelle. Sorry about the loss of your father. If you need help with the car, I'm only a PM away. Jason.
