We have a fresh 427 SBC with 18* Trick Flow heads. Our problem is we have an intake for it that actually fits 18X heads. Is there some kind of spacer available to make this happen? We've had a few people tell us "all you need is a spacer" but they failed to tell us where we could locate and purchase one. So correct me if I'm wrong Brady_67, we need to make a 23* style intake fit a set of 18* heads. The setup is going in a 96 Z28. It will be EFI with a VERY large turbo.

....and yes it is the same Z28 we have the EFI 540 in. We change motors in that thing like we change clothes.

Thanks in advance,
Shannon

Shannon,

Which intake do you have? Std. deck block (9.025")?

The Brodix 18X heads and 18X intakes as well as most other Brodix 18 deg. stuff uses a 10 deg. intake face. The port location is typical 18 deg.

The standard intake face for 18 deg. heads such as GM heads, Dart, Trick Flow, and some Brodix is 5 degrees.

The easiest thing to do is get a GM or Dart/Wilson intake. I am not aware of any commercially available spacers that solve this problem.

yes, the brodix intake we have is an HV1801 milled on 10*. The heads are milled on 5*

We would like to make this intake work *if possible* because it's already converted to EFI, and ported.. It's pretty easy to tie up $800 or so on an intake and we already have this one so.....

thanks for the input.

Looks to me like you need a different manifold. I don't see how you're going to make that deal work with spacers. There's not enough room for a wedge plare and two sets of gaskets. Might as well bite the bullet, get it over with.

The only other possibility is to weld up the intake face of your Brodix intake and then have it machined to 5 deg. to match your heads. That's not going to be cheap or easy either though.

Did you guys run a set of 18x heads before? How did the old combo run? Are the TFS heads ported? Flow numbers? Who ported them?

I'm starting to think it won't work either.. Welding the intake and machining it back to 5* flanges will be more of a PITA than it's worth.. The heads are just cleaned up with cartridge rolls and flowed 335/250 @ .650

This engine replaces the LT1 in my '96Z28..

It's going to be destroked back to 3.50" and the bore will be about 4.132 for about 375 c.i.

a 94mm turbo will pump the air into it. smile.gif
