I just got my new AED 750 HO carb put on my 377 sb. I am running a full MSD set up (6AL box, billet dist, wires etc.) The AED instructions say to run the black 18 degree bushing in the dist with the lightest springs so the timing can come in quick. But to get the 38 degrees total I want means I will have to bump up my initial to 20 degrees. I think it would be better to run 17 initial and use the blue 21 degree bushing for the 38 total. This is a car that sees alot of street use. I would think that the more initial timing would cause the motor to ping??
What would be better????
Thanx,
Brian

Brian;Fellow Pa. guy here.Your mechanical timing should start coming in just above idle(about 100 rpm above),in gear, with an automatic transmission. With a standard,it could come in as high as 1500 rpm or more, depending on your setup. The bushing has nothing to do with the speed of the curve.Figure your initial, your total, and then decide on the curve(springs) based on the above advice. If 17 degrees initial and 21 degrees mechanical work for you, then do it.The AED guys are just going by a general concensus, and they're guesstimate does not apply to all. graemlins/hurray.gif graemlins/beers.gif Steve
