I've got a leak in the front of my trans near the torque converter. I'm not sure if it's the part where the torque converter input shaft goes into the pump drive or the pump seal. if I pull the pump seal off would that screw up some kind of calibration or something? I've never seen the inside of a TH350 exept the shift kit I put in so I'm a little nervous to just pull it open. The tranny is just a stock Checker $350/exc. reman.

Probablly the pump seal, its easy to change onec the tranny is dropped. changing the seal wont mess anything up just drop the trans remove the seal install the new one and stick the tranny back in. no biggie

make sure you lube the coverter snout before you install it so you wont tear the seal up again.i like to use vasoline but trans fluid will work to

Not a bad idea to try and determine that the leak is from the seal and not the front pump o-ring or gasket. Should be able to tell if it's right at the seal or farther down at edge of pump. Prabably the seal but better safe than sorry!

Thanks for all the good advise, I'm so excited about getting the rear end into performance condition and all my leaks fixed (I had a hard time with the oil pan for a while but I fixed it a few months ago) this old car should round out.

There is a bushing behind that seal that may be damaged, you might want to check it out at the same time.

If you're using the old converter make sure the snout where the seal rides isn't grooved/worn.

could the snout be grooved if the transmission has less than 15,000 miles?
what does the bushing look like?
