You guys probably think i'm nuts but i love the old Hot-wheels style 70's street machines. Often referred to as "day two" cars.
I plan to build my car that way (minus some stuff that was just totally stupid), and would love any pictures that any of you may have of your bad rides back in the day.

Rear ends jacked up way high, L60's and pizza cutter fronts, Ladder bars, side-pipes, insane amounts of chrome crap stuck out of the hood, foot-print gas petal and all!

Two Lane Blacktop fan? .....me too, that looks mean.

Here's mine, it was raced in the early 80's and still has the stickers on it from then under the hood and on the 1/4 glass. It's not pretty, but who cares, it's a big block four speed car. Those are widened factory Corvette rally's in the back and 3" SS Cragers in the front. It even has a Sun tach and a hurst dog-leg shifter.:hurray:

Check out our '69. It has been day two since, well, day two. ;) The Stewart-Warner tach and gauges are what the original owner installed. I adapted a Muncie handle to the Hurst shifter that he installed in the car. I run headers as well. The Cragar mags were what we used back then, if we could afford them. http://rides.webshots.com/album/560001407BJbiIt

Hi Keith, I have been to that old B-A gas station. Apparently there are auction sales there, but I have never attended one.

I also heard that they use the back as an auction hall. I just went for a Sunday afternoon drive to get some pictures so, of course, the place was closed. Pretty hard to get lost in Newtonville. Makes a very nice back drop for the old cars. Lots of B-A memorabillia in the windows. I wouldn't mind stopping by when they are open to see the inside. I live between Peterborough and Lindsay. Where are you at Paul? Our daughter and son-in-law live at Sydenham not far from Don Lightfoot.

Here's the '60 Corvette I bought in 1990. It had been a weekend drag car for most of it's life in the Detroit area, running mid tens with a wild 327 in it at one point. It had a mild 350 in it when I bought it. The body was almost perfect underneath about 4 layers of paint- I ended up restoring it back to it's original red w/white coves and red interior. Fun car that I sold in 1998.

how does the black '55 drive? can you even take it down the interstate? looks like it would be one squirrely ride. i understand the nostalgia drag look was the goal and not driveability, but i was just curious.

Hey DEREK69SS...if you don't like it then get off my thread.

I like straight line performance from a muscle car, and am not as concerned with the handling.
I also don't mind having a car that you have to actually DRIVE. People did it for years with out traction control, ABS, radial tires, and automatic trannys.
Not only did they live...They used their skill's and non "functioning" cars to throw down with times that would smoke anything you own.

As far as looks nice?
Like they say. To each his own.
I don't go over to the Pro-touring forum and tell them what i think about their 20" wheels and rubber band tires, or shaved door handles and spoilers.

If I had my scanner hooked up I'd dig out some of my old magazines and post up a few of those pics! There were several cars that stick out in my mind that were built in this style that I can think of that were featured in the mags. I do not ever remember this era ever being called "Day 2", though, must be a new term.

Anyone remember the "Imperial Stormtrooper"?

About 1964. 327, Fuel Injection, close ratio four speed, 4.88 positrac. Can just barely see custom fender well headers behind the front wheel. Serious street racer, ran 13s at the drag strip in street trim. Very fast for those days.

The changes made to cars soon after they were bought. In the case of my 65, 15X7 American Mags with top quality tires, a lower rear gear and a 3310 carburetor from Chevrolet parts (about $25.00).

This isn't a Chevy but was a "Day 2" car since day 1. Brand new this Ram Air 400 Firebird left London Motor Products in London, Ontario done up. The engine was balanced and blueprinted with the Royal Bobcat kit from Royal Pontiac and headers were added. The turbo 400 was reworked. The rear rims were widened to 8" and traction bars were added. The M/T tires looked impressive were zero traction. The Camaro spoiler was added as was the unique black out on the rear end. Back then, Pontiacs were not noted for being all that quick. This car put a long face on a few guys who thought they had quick cars. By today's standards it wouldn't be a standout but back in the day it was pretty good.

Any one recall the 70's V8 Vegas and Pintos? This was my first car - a '74 Vega I got back in '76. It lasted about a year with the 140ci four banger before I dropped a 350 into it. Back then it was all about looks - forget handling - jack the back end up as far as you could till you're almost falling out of your seat:). Was a blast to drive - too much, ended up with an accordion front end after I plowed into the back of another car. The good news is I'm still hear to talk about it and much safer these days with my not quite so radical '69 Chevelle.

No photos but I had long rear spring shackles, bigger rear tires and a glasspack.

A friend had a 61 Lancer with the torsion bars turned all the way up and some more springs in the rear, and the mandatory flouresent orange paint on the suspension and rear axle! Absolutely the height of no cost cool!

His brother had a 55 Chevy, primer gray, 283, four speed, jacked up, bucket seats on stacks of 2x4's headers, etc. Actually raced this on regularly and drove it like he stole it all the time.

Saw sidepipes on everything.

Geez, life was cooler then!
