This is a great question; I've been wondering the same thing. I have an LT1, which is a cable-style throttle assembly... I assume shaving the hole is a non-issue but would like to hear from someone who has made the switch.

it depends on the style pedal you are going to install? they are all different lokar makes some really neat ones you would have to find the pedal assy you want to use and fill or drill the new hole to make it work

Lokar now lists a pedal assy for the 64-67 Chevelle:

The pedal is no longer attached at the floor, but a good alternative.

thanks for the replies.. lokar part is sweet. what about a factory one from a different vehicle. early 70's nova seems popular.. how do they go thru the firewall and do they bolt to the floor?

That lokar one bolts directly into the factory hole for the throttle. Then you just drill a new hole for the cable. I have the setup on my car. It's very clean

so with the lokar it would bolt thru the firewall in the stock location and then i drill an additional hole? i have no problem drilling an additional hole or two. i want to finish the firewall and not have to go back and weld it again.
