I am looking at buying a cam kit from Summit K-1302. The springs recommended have 298 open pressure and 121 seat pressure, the springs I have are 280 open and 90 seat. I am wondering if the springs I have would work. There in a relatively stock 402 which will only be street driven. Any ideas appreciated.

I would think they would work in a street application. But being as they are lighter than the recommended springs, I wouldn't want to rev the engine to the upper limit of the cam's advertised RPM range (5500 RPM) for fear of valve float.

According to Summit's website, the recommended valve springs list for $67.95. That doesn't sound too extremely expensive. If money's tight now, you could run your current springs until you can afford the spec springs. Of course you then would have the added cost of gaskets and such, not to mention the risk of oil leaks and other unexpected occurances rise if you have to tear back into the engine later. It may be more economically and logically feasible to do it now.

Then again, the experts with more experience than I may tell you that your current springs will be just fine for what you plan to do with your engine.

Just food for thought.
