: Why wont it work?

Okay, I mentioned a 383 stroker with a 92 F-body TPI on it, and Scott_68_SS said that "From my research, a 383 and modded TPI are a mistake. Not to mention a more costly approach. Holley (Doug F) said that a vortec spec Stealth Ram will be out some time next year. Check out HSR There already are two bolt on vortec single plane efi intakes. Edelbroke and Holley make them."
Now I would go with a Holley kit but correct me if I'm wrong but, I will need to go with a MAF set up because of my cam the MAP wont work because I would have too low of vaccum, and Holley doesn't make a set up with a MAF. :( The costlly part is debatable, but I'm not opposted to changing and selling all of the cheap parts I do have for the 92 TPI and saving for the complete kit, (I'm just sick of this bogging and cold start carburation crap) I just wanted to know why couldn't I do this set up with 10.5-1 Cr and a 230-236 dur.@.050 .490lift matched 112 cam with vortec heads?
Thanks,
Sean

The specs you list at the bottom don't need MAF. A factory GM ECU may not like that cam without major reprogramming, but the Holley C950 won't have a problem with it running speed density. The Holley EFI single plane is a pretty good intake. Doug mentioned the HSR will make a little more power but even the regular single plane is a huge step above TPI.

A huge step huh, cool, I'am just looking to make a powerfull, drivable, fast motor and I know that fuel injection is really easy stuff to tune the most HP/TQ out of your engine with. thanks of the info I'll check out the holley kit again not that I know that I won't have any cam problems. I have the tools to program the fuel injection and even program my own chips.
Thanks again.

Basically all the aftermarket EFI is based on speed density. I have seen some very successfull swaps using a FORD EEC with MAF. It seems like a very economical way to go if you can do alot of your own fabrication, and search for used parts. The computers/harnesses/sensors are routinely available through wreckers or similar. The high performance stuff through mustang enthusiasts.
However if your not that resoursefull, or if you just don't have the time, the holley system is hard to beat.

Ya I'm not scared of frabracating, but I think I'm going to save and got the Holley set up it isn't that bad in price. The only reason I was going to do the 92 firebird TPI on my car if because my buddy just did it on his 72 Blazer with normal heads though and a more mild cam but it works great and improved the power a bunch. It good to hear that the holley system is hard to beat because I really would like to do it right the first time, this time.

from talking to a local fuel injection guru dan fodge he claimed to me that all street driven comp controlled engines shpould have a 112 lobe sep or more and then you can get a map that is laptop tuuneable
