Hello Guys,
I need help locating a lower steering column bearing for a 67 SS.
I was disassembling and cleaning my column on Saturday and dropped the bearing.Needless to say I lost about half of the ball bearing that were in it.
I have tried in vain to locate a new bearing or even an old one and though that I would turn to you for help.
If you have any useful information please get back to me.
Already tried James Hinshaw and he has offered to provide a few ball bearing if he has the right ones.
Evidently ,this bearing is not made anymore or has a new P/N. Any Ideas?

I needed one of these about 6 months ago & the first call I made was to True Connections. They told me "Good Luck, try Ebay". :(
You are in a tough spot. You can wait for one on ebay, or try doing what TC member & former GM Saginaw Steering employee Jim L82 suggested. Buy a lower bearing for a 69-70, & ream out the plastic lower bearing adapter on your existing column with a die grinder. Those bearings can be bought anywhere for about $23; resto books, or even the dealer. It worked for me.
Good luck!

Is it a tilt column? I have an extra lower column bearing I got for a tilt column I was going to rebuild - when I found them I bought the 4 he had, have 1 left. I think it is different for a non tilt, although I did read on a camaro site that they are the same?
Q "I have been searching for lower bearings for a 1968 Camaro non-tilt steering column and have not been able to find any nor any reference to where I can find any. I would like to find a current part number or the original part number with the spec for the bearing to see if I can find a substitute. Thanks for any help you may give. "

A "An old parts book shows group 6.521 p/n # 7806142 "bearing, steering shaft lower, 67-68 all." Meaning tilt wheel not different. Probably long discontinued, but try Chevy Parts Obsolete or Chuck Voelker. Or just get a good used column.
Another suggestion is to try removing the bearings and look at them. Almost all bearings are marked from the factory, and the numbers can be cross referenced with Timken, or others. " (CRG)
Dunno. The original (tilt) part # was 7802186 and the 68 # was 7804200. The only difference was the copper colored surface on the 68. The latest part # I have is 7806142.
None of these #'s are available now from the source where I got them -

If you have a different part number try them. Seems to me Year One also had one when I was looking, but it was a bushing, not a bearing.

John,
The lower bearing on a 67 Chevelle is different on the tilt columns. I have both versions, & I tried to swap the lower bearing from the tilt into my standard column....no luck. The tilt column bearing had a larger diameter.
With that said, I would be interested in the extra lower bearing you have if fishman isn't.
Thanks,
Pete
