: Location of trans brake activation switch
I'm getting very close to having my car ready for the strip. I have a B&M Prostick revearse pattern w/ Turbo 400 and will be shifting manually until I get used to the car.I was wondering what is the best location for the trans brake release button? I would think that on the shifter might be the best but I'm worried about accidentially hitting it while shifting. I have my linloc switch on the steering wheel and another button there would cause the cords to really knot up. I was thinking about moving the linloc to the floor and use my left foot on that and use the wheel button for the trans brake. I"d really appreciate your suggestions on location of both of these switches if possible. Thanks for the help.
BLK64SS Jun 1st, 04, 12:21 PM when I ran a t/brake, I ran both lineloc and t/brakebuttons on the steering wheel, left hand lineloc, right t/brake. The cords did like to twist up.
The problem with the t/brake button on the shifter is, hitting second gear on the leave accidently.
What about putting the lineloc on the shifter and the t/brake on the wheel.....
Why didn't I think of that!! graemlins/clonk.gif It wouldn't matter if you hit the linloc button accidently during a run. Thanks, any other ideas anyone??

Junkyard Dawg Jun 2nd, 04, 5:59 AM Here's an idea that's been brewing in my mind for awhile....
Take one standard toggle switch and install a safety flip cover (the kind that has to be flipped to turn it on. From there run a wire to the button on the shift knob, and from there run it to a 3 way toggle switch. Then run one wire from the 3 way toggle switch to the trans brake and the other to the line lock.
In this way you have one main kill switch (toggle with flip cover), one selector switch so you can choose between line lock and trans brake (3 way toggle) and one activator switch (shifter handle button). Just don't forget which one you've got it in...you wouldn't want to launch with the line lock and vice versa. ;)
Of course I've also seen the "hand held" trans brake launch switches used too.
yanniz Jun 2nd, 04, 9:54 AM how does your line lock work? Correct me if I am wrong, but it holds pressure in the brakes....so you step on the brakes and then hold the line lock button to hold the pressure to them.
So if you taped/pushed it during the run, what would it do?
I have line lock on the shifter, t-brake on the wheel.
BLK64SS Jun 2nd, 04, 10:04 AM JYD, I tried that and it made the t/brake hit REAL late.
What I had was a T Handle w/ button on the shifter, I used a 2 way switch that switched power to either the t/brake or lineloc. I laos had the t/brake side hooked up to a small red lite.
Yanniz, it would hold the pressure in the line thats present.
yanniz Jun 2nd, 04, 10:50 AM Yanniz, it would hold the pressure in the line thats present. Exactly, which during the run should be close to none...so I think your initial suggestion of getting the line lock on the shifter would work fine.
drums&cars Jun 2nd, 04, 3:52 PM Here's an thought I had......if you had a drag only car and wanted more "sleeper" qualities, could you make your high-beam switch your line lock button? Push down, locks, push again, releases pressure. Plus, it'll clean up some of the wire confusion. Or maybe I'm confused how the switch works?
blazerbob Jun 2nd, 04, 4:11 PM I have line-loc on shifter and tranbrake mounted in hole of steering wheel. Yes I too have the hassle of transbrake wire wrapping aroung steering when turning buts thats why the telephone type stretch wire is used. graemlins/waving.gif
Junkyard Dawg Jun 2nd, 04, 10:57 PM Check out the Heavy Chevy in this months Chevy High Performance......the guy used stock parts such as the blower motor switch, hot/cold selector switch, etc. to function several aftermarket items in his car. He even had a shift light hidden in his A/C vents!

I guess cause of the extra connections and switch. hooked it up straight through on its own and it worked fine.
70SSElky Jun 3rd, 04, 6:58 PM I don't think I would use my dimmer switch! A line lock blocks the pressure in the line or the lack of. If you use your dimmer switch and you engage it by mistake and it is "Locked" closed while you are driving you will not send any pressure to the brake lines when you actaully want to stop. Worse yet if someone else was driving the car and didn't know about your "system" they might activate it by accident.

Mike Feudo Jun 3rd, 04, 8:24 PM You need the fastest releasing most accessible switch you can use. I made a shift lever that held one that my thumb worked. Never had a problem. The difference between winning and loosing can come down to who has the quicker switch.
