: Race Results, New Best ET
Georgia69 Mar 17th, 04, 4:41 PM I tried some Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro tires this week at the track and recorded a new best. After learning how to heat them up a little, I dropped my 60' from 2.001 to 1.932, and dropped 1/4 mile ET from previous best of 13.65 to a new best of 13.54 at 98mph. I think I could go as quick as 13.40 at 100mph if I tried a couple of tricks like some lightweight wheels or wiring my converter clutch for 3rd gear lockup, but I also have another 350 buildup underway with better heads, so we'll see what happens. I'm also wondering if I may be running out of fuel a little bit at the top end, 98mph seems a little weak for a 13.54 ET.
Also, I managed to make it to the final round in the Trophy Street division at Atlanta Dragway two weeks in a row so far.

It's great to win a few rounds, but frustrating to lose in the finals. So close, and yet so far smile.gif
USFATL Mar 17th, 04, 5:31 PM WAY TO GO MIKEY!!!
We missed you a couple of weeks ago. Congrats on the new bests. I hope to get back to Commerce in a few weeks to do a little practicing.
Regards,
BillsCamino Mar 17th, 04, 5:32 PM Mike,
I was wondering how you made out.
 graemlins/thumbsup.gif
The Atlanta website results noted "foul" next to your name.
Was that because you red lighted or improper use of language?? :D
Let's take some weight off that car. Come on over and borrow the Welds that are collecting dust in my EMPTY garage.
427L88 Mar 17th, 04, 5:46 PM Well, he IS OPINIONATED AND IRREVERENT~!
:D
Good work man!
mr 4 speed Mar 17th, 04, 6:13 PM Mike-nice job..congrats graemlins/thumbsup.gif
what size where those M/T's?
BB_Mike Mar 17th, 04, 6:30 PM I race on pretty much the same tire. Hell, I drive every day on pretty much the same tire. :D
I've managed a 1.85 as a best . That was the best feeling laucnh ever, but was next to a veyr loud car. Don't know if it dead hooked or not. On test-n-tune nights I pull the low 1.9s all while cussing out the track preperation. graemlins/angry.gif
Good numbers... for a small block. graemlins/waving.gif

The Pro Star wheels are NOT for sale. They go on my '70 when (if) it returns from the body shop. ;)
I was offering to let Mike borrow them. He only lives a few miles away and has been to my house numerous times.
However, the offer is open to you, too.
The drive may be a little too far, though.
Motor Martyr Mar 17th, 04, 8:52 PM If you find a set around your area that are for sale, and are skinny front (4.5" or 5") and 8" wide rear with 4.5" backspace...then keep me in mind. TIA.
Thad Mar 17th, 04, 9:06 PM Well your new best is only one hundreth of a second slower than my best of a 13.53, but my mph on that run was 106.24 mph.
And my best 60 ft, is 2.284.
I gotta learn how to get this car going.
(I haven't had the car out since October, and we still have snow on the ground.) graemlins/sad.gif
So you must be doing something right.
Rmchevelle Mar 17th, 04, 10:16 PM Congrats on the new best.

Something definitely seems to be up with that! I'm curious why the difference between yours and Chris' (Fuji) mph. I know he's lighter than you but...
I have a friend who has a similar E.T. but his mph is 102. This is in a second gen Camaro. I hope you discover something holding it back because I'd like to see a great combo get even greater. ;)

Bob West Mar 17th, 04, 11:01 PM It sounds like its inline to me,,,My son 60ft's 2.xx and runs 13.50-13.80 at 94-97 mph. I always figured 13 flat was right at 100 or so mph. This is in a 81 Chevy SWB truck.
Thad ought to be in the 12's if he could hook it up.
My best 60ft. with Cooper Cobras was 1.86 don't know why you guys are having such a hard time getting them to hook with stickies
mr 4 speed Mar 18th, 04, 7:39 AM Bob,the 1.86 60 ft. you did with the Coopers..where they pretty worn down? Right now,my regular street tires feel like they grab better now that they are worn, and I'm wondering how they would 60 ft. at the track. They actually feel better on the street traction wise compared to my drag radials.None of this will really matter when I start running those Hoosier QT DOT Pro's,but I'm still curious.
Bob West Mar 18th, 04, 7:51 AM Actually they were fairly new, It was one of the first times I took my car to the track after I got it back together. I made a couple passes that would have made a AA/Fuel Altered look tame. I ran 12.69-13.20's and the car was all over the place just like my e.t.'s.
mr 4 speed Mar 18th, 04, 7:56 AM Thanks for the info Bob graemlins/thumbsup.gif
vonswanko Mar 18th, 04, 8:10 AM Great job Mike, keep it up and you'll get the win.
Georgia69 Mar 18th, 04, 8:23 AM Chris, my M/T's are the smallest they make for a 15" wheel, 26x9.5x15 I think, I'll have to take a look when I get home. They are about 9 years old too, I used them from 1995-97 on my Mustang, and then they sat in the crawlspace under my house until recently. I have them mounted on 15x7 Corvette Rally's. As BB_Mike says, they are OK for street use. I put them on at the house, and then drive about 65 miles to the track inflated to 24psi. I raced at the same pressures.
Bill, I might take you up on that offer. I am also thinking about buying a set of Weld Draglites for all four wheels.
SS_Sean Mar 18th, 04, 9:14 AM Good job on the new best! Onwards and upwards!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
mr 4 speed Mar 18th, 04, 9:23 AM Mike, thanks for the info on the tires.I'll let you guys know how the Hoosier Q/T DOT Pro's work on my car..anyway,your car has some stellar performance..I like it graemlins/thumbsup.gif
