I recently purchased a 66 chevelle, with an extra tilt steering column, the previous owner said it came from a 66 chevelle, my question is how can I tell
if its a 66 column or something else. Thanks for your help:D

Can you post some pics?
Floor shift, column shift?
1967 and up steering columns have a crush sleeve and Hazard switch for hazard lights.
So it should not have those features. No ignition in the column as ignition was in the dash on a 66. I don't know what else to tell you. If I could see a photo, I could verify if it is a 66 chevelle column. maybe somebody else can describe it better, or have more info.

You said "extra tilt column" does that mean that the car already has a tilt column? If so, you should be able to tape measure dimensions and determine if the two columns are the same (or close to the same).
I would suggest that tilt columns from the 1966 time frame are extremely rare. You are quite lucky to have an extra one.

while 64/65 should physically fit, I believe '66 is unique... Something about the length of the upper, outer column bezel (right below the tilt area)...

66 tilt column is a one year only part. The column mast has a unique shape making it easy to ID.
