My steering box is fried I think. The wheel turns without turning the car and it leaks like no tomorrow. I beleive the quick ratio boxes give a stiffer or lesser turn which is what im looking for. I thought they were over $300 a pop but I checked kragen and they have something called Lares 972
Remanufactured; Quick Ratio; Power Steering for $144 Im thinking about doing it. Never heard of Lares though. Any feedback on this would be great...

There is a Lares here in Minnesota that rebuilds power steering boxes. Im not sure if it the same place.

I sent mine to a place called Powering steering Services in Ohio. Mine is a manual steering but they do great work on power units too. Including the quick ratio conversion.

Chris.

Now I remember what I needed to know. Ive never changed a steering box, or done a swap. The quick ratio I imagine hooks up just like stock, pull the bolts, take off the hoses, mount it, bolt it done? Anything special to take into concideration or problems I may encouter? The pitman arm is what connects to the bottom of the steering box right, I dont think I have a wrench big enough to get around that bolt, also do i need a puller for this arm?

Hmm...can't remember if you'll need a puller. However, the pitman arms are NOT the same for the manual vs power box. You will have to get a power pitman arm.

The rest of it's pretty straightforward. I forget if we maybe we had to get another/new belt for the power unit. I mean, we had to do *something* to run a belt to it, but I'm not looking at it right now and I can't remember what we did on that portion.

My box now is power steering, the only thing im converting is to a quick ratio box, the cars already power. Or are quick ratio boxes manual? You got me confused now TH smile.gif
