I have an electric fuel pump with a HPGC-1 canister type fuel filter installed between the tank and the pump. How do you go about changing the filter? when I undo the filter gas runs out and doesn't want to stop. Is my only option to drain the tank?

Thanks

Dino

I have the same filter also between tank and pump. When I change filter,I remove the line from tank to filter first then fold and pinch line with a wire tie. Then just loosen top 9/16
bolt in center, put in new filter. Fill canister with gas 1/2 way so not to much air gets in line.

You can also *gently* pinch off the hose with some needle nose vise grips wrapped with duct/black tape.(Dont do this if it's braided stainless!) graemlins/beers.gif

If you have a stock tank where the hoses come out the top, you can use compressed air. I use a blow-gun with a rubber tip. Take off the gas cap, and after you loosen the gas line, take it off any blow air back into the tank till you hear it bubbling. You don't need a ton of air pressure though....so don't overdo it.

When I installed mine, I put a fuel shutoff valve between the tank and filter. Clean and simple.
