Absolutely. It's what I'm running.
Make sure you get the wheels with 5.5" backspace.

This should help you with back-space.

A 10X15 with 5.5" bs will center the wheel/tire in the wheel house. 1968-72 Chevelles normally can run a 10X15" 5.5" bs with a 295/50 tire and still have the necessary body clearance. If you intend to lift the rear you might be able to run some other bs with a 15X10 rim.

now i got it - Figured it out with the help of you guys - my Grandfather would be proud - the Rims i ordered do not have a bigger Backspacing then 4.875 - is that going to be an issue for my rear tires??

Yes, the bs you ordered will move the wheel outboard so your clearance issue will be with the quarter panel.
FYI - Normally a 295/50 on a 15X10 with 5.5" bs is the max you can safely stuff in your car. It is possible you could still have clearance issues even with this setup. So if you increase tire size, rim width or change bs there is a very good chance you are going to have clearance problems....do a search here at TC.

What others have said above. Are you stuck on those rims? It sounds like they aren't the right fit, might want to consider other options, like a 15x8 rim, etc, which will also reduce the size of the tire you can put on the wheel.
