I own a 68 SS396 paint code is GT (ash gold lower / palomino ivory upper) the car was re-painted completely ash gold by previous owner, which I like, no complaints there, however I have never seen a 2 tone paint job on a 68. I have seen plenty of vinyl roofs. Anyone have a photo of what the 2 tone paint scheme looked like?

It looks like a vinyl top, same moldings and all. I've seen a few over the years, kinda cool.

Ken, Some 68 Chevelles were produced with a standard body color and a white/ivory painted top which incorporated the vinyl top trim. A good friend of mine bought one new, it was Grotto Blue with a white painted top.

It's seems kind of weird that an SS would have a two tone paint job, when just being an SS would mean it would be black below the molding. Are there any 68 SS's from the factory that didn't have the lower black? I can't imagine one black/gold/white.

I saw one before it looked really nice the Polomino Ivory color is like a cream goldish color it looks really nice with the Ash Gold as long as you have some black like black interior and black rally wheels maybe possibly a black pinstripe:thumbsup:

Here's a link to a pic on Chevellestuff of a gold/white '69 Malibu that would be close. I've seen a few GT coded trim tags, but all of the cars had been repainted to a solid color.

Thanks for the input and photos. Maybe some day if she ever needs paint I will put it back to original 2-tone.
