A quality 69 L89 Ragtop is certainly worth some big bucks. I will be following this as I have in the past. It's changed hands a number of times in the past few years. Below is a picture of it at the Spring/05 Atlantic City Auction and then at the 2005 Maryland Chevelle Show. Looks like it has gone from coast to coast since then. Don't know why some people have a hard time just keeping these cars, seems certain ones come up for sale on a regular basis.

Some people see these cars and all they see are dollar signs.

That and I think some of the people with money just are using that money as an opportunity to own some of the greatest cars produced. They buy a dream car and once the "shine" wears off of that car, they sell it and buy another they have always wanted, and the cycle continues. Can't say I wouldn't do it if I had the play money as well.

Scott, I assume that is the part number for a 69 Convertible Frame. The appropriate number for a 69 Hardtop Frame is 3943330 (I think?).

I have never seen the frame part number recorded in that fashion. I make detail decals, including frame decals, which are about two inches square and are placed on the frame just in front of the rear wheels. That is what came from various research I did. But I am certainly not in a position to confirm which format is correct. In any event, the decals I do are placed "upside down" just like the numbers painted on the frame with this convertible. I believe the frames were stacked upside down at the plant so the part number could be read as normal.

Does any or all of this make sense

Thanks Don.
That does make sense. I have seen a lot of writing on firewall, paint marks on parts, nuts, bolts. But I have never seen anything like that.

Out of all the cars I have seen. I think its a hype thing. I have only seen it on 2 LS6 cars and this car.
Its almost the same as when they paint the large part numbers on the drive shaft also.

I'm usually not a big fan of rag top Chevelles (or any other cars), but that one sure is nice.

To this day, the frames go down the line upside down. The suspension, gas tank, and a bunch of other pieces are installed on the frame, before it is turned over. The cars, when they had frames, were done the same way.

What I want to know is where he came up with 1 of 3? Specific engine AND Specific transmission. Nice car. Brad, shouldn't you be working with the secret SC police or CIA right about now? Joey shut up and go show her your Malibu!!! :D :D

Did you notice that the ad says it has factory tach and gauges but the pics show otherwise? I think they should cross the t's and dot the I's on a 300K car!

Beautiful car.

That would be my guess, too, Brad. If someone legitimately bid $275K for this car they have way more nerve (not to mention money) than I do  The last I recall, this car sold for about $130K at an Atlantic City auction a couple years ago. It may have run thru a Mecum auction since then, but if so, I don't recall the sale price or high bid

Bill, is the car listed at any of the russo and jackson auction houses this weekend?
