Hey whats up guys I am going to get a weiand 177 blower for my chevelle graemlins/hurray.gif and I had a few questions. First, what problems can i run into with a blower? Ive never ran one on a car before. My specs are below, and im wondering what kind of boost I can expect to run safely. I hear that big blocks are tempermental, and with a blower they can be even more so. With my current set up, what should I think about changing? What kind of power levels should I expect with the boost? Thanks guys-

2 bolt 454 bored .060 over, .550 inch lift solid flat tappet, demon 750, 9.5:1 comp, ported/polished oval port heads, mallory hei distributor, msd super conductor wires.

Should I buy an msd blower box? What things as far as tuning goes should I focus on?

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I sure hope I dont do anything detrimental with the blower, as I am a newbie and cannot find much in the search archives

I think CHP mag. put one on a mild 454 and you would be supprised at the results.

Might try the mag's archives for it if you want to..

Mighta been Car Craft, too?? I can't keep track of them...

You may have to change CAMS or go to a lower compression piston if you plan on running pump gas. The boost will change your cylinder pressure which will give you a higher effective DCR. Make sure you talk to a blower expert before assembling everything. Harold can probably give you some pointers on the CAM.

Should be a LOT of fun! Hold on!

Article is in chevy high performance July 2003. They used a 454 .030 over 7.9 comp., cam was GM/Merc 502/440HP cam 220/220@050 500lift 115lobe seperation, 850 holley carb. With SQ ports made 638HP 3700rpm 558 TQ at 5300. with #781 oval ports 2.19/1.88 no porting made 650HP 3700 563TQ 5300. The HP jumped 180 over same motor with wieand stealth intake TQ went up 150lbs.

I am running a 177 on my 2 bolt 454, only thing I did was put a boost timing contol on. I have the comp xe274 cam. I have had no problems. This is my daily driver. I had this same motor in my 76 stepside, but now it's in my 72 chebeast wagon. I am also using the long snout blower, with 10 grove pulleys, rather than the six grove. You can see this thing on my grump1 below, along with engine specs under drive train. You may have some clearnce problem depending on the fan setup you run. At the moment I have a nylon flexlite fan, with 1 1/2 spacers to get thru and clear the blower belt. I am fixing to change this though to a ford Taurus electric fan whenever I get in the mood, which was this morning, but I have decided to clean my homes evaporator coil. By the way the ole wagon goes pretty good. Oh well!

P.S. if youare using 6 grove you should have more clerance on the rad., just to put it on and go from there.

I just remembered somethibg else, if you get the 177, before you bolt the intake on make sure your valve covers will go on. If not you will need to grind some material off the intake. on the intake there are four rises that will have to be ground at a certain angle so the covers slip on. Two rises each side. I took my Dremell tool and took care of it in a few minutes. I have the polished 177 and you can't tell, not unless you really look.

P.S. When I was out this AM tinkering, it is the four upper bolt holes, intake to head, two on each side that need too be ground slightly to allow valve covers to go on.
