I have a 70 Chevelle SS so I think. I have the build sheet with all the SS options except z 25 or z 15. Is my car an SS? It has B22 SS emblems, 4spd, 396, f-41, SS wheels, SS dash (read on), A51 buckets, jl2 powers disc brakes, ZL3 SS conversion, G80 posi, G94 331 rear, C56 upper level vent (???), in box 55 SS air cleaner, and rear control arms are PPD (i think, hard to read). Is my car an SS? Are the control arms boxes? The fuel gauge in box # 42 is 83* is that SS? Wheels in box # 45 are AO-5, are they the SS wheels? In box 67 the interment cluster is GA, is this the sweep, idiot lights or Gauges? And the trim package is 75, What does that mean? Is there somewhere I can scan this in and have someone tell me what every box is?
I hope someone takes the time to answer all of my questions. This site has been such a big help to me. So much so that Im joining on the 9th when I get paid. Thanks to all, Jason

Thanks to all, JasonA couple of questions come to mind. What plant is the car from? KC is the only plant that actually puts the Z25 SS 396 PKG option code on the build sheet along with the ZL3 code and almost each plant has different workding for the ZL3 code.
ATL has =ZL3 SS 396 CONVERSN
BAL has #ZL3 SS396 CONVER
KC has = ZL3 SS 396 CONV and Z25 SS 396 PKG
VAN NUYS has =ZL3 SS 396 CONVERSN

If you can scan a copy of the sheet and email it to me, I can help with many of the blocks - 396guy@chevelles.com

GA stands for idiot light dash, no tach and possibly no clock either. Thats what i have on my build sheet and car. I verified this the other day when I went to change some light bulbs in the cluster and found the GA sticker on top of the cluster.

Thanks, I sent it to you. I hope you can answer some of my qestions. I do know the sequence is correct for the plant as this was checked before I bought the car 4 years ago. I wanted to make sure it wasnt a fake sheet. I quess if it was a fake they would have put the D88 stripes on the sheet and not just the car. Thanks again and let me know. Jason

Just to clarify on the dash...the SS option DID NOT include the instrument panel gauges - never did on any 66 or later SS Chevelle. What it did include were the round gauge pods for the fuel gauge and speedometer/odometer instead of the sweep speedometer dash with warning lamps. If a clock was ordered, it went into the right round pod -and different clock on the sweep dash as well. The RPO U14 Instrument Panel gauges were still optional (and optional on non-SS optioned Malibu V8 sport coupes, convertibles, and sedan pickups as well). This option included the tach, amp, and temp gauges - the oil pressure was still relegated to a warning lamp.

Here's the base dash for a SS optioned Malibu - note no gauges and no clock. Oil, water temp, amp are still warning lamps.

What am I missing here?? Is it the spelling of ZL-3 conversn??? and what plant it was built at. My first reaction was its a SS, but if the spelling of note is a sniff of a phoney build sheet that would be new to me. (not that I dont doubt it) My Atlanta sheet is in fact spelled CONVERSN. Norman:yes:

That's my point, different plants often had different ways of ways of listing items. Like Baltimore used the # symbol where others used the = symbol and KC has a space between the = and ZL3. One symbol indicates Body Shop and one indicated Trim Shop. Why the differences? That's just the way different plants had their information in the computers.

The way it is on my build sheet is exactly as followed ZL3 SS 396 CONV Also it was built in Arlington Texas. I would like to find more on the dealer code 191, Fannin Chevrolet Oldsmobile. I dont see this being a fake however if I knew everything I wouldnt be asking. I did mail my sheet to someone that replied to this post. Im waiting to hear from that person.
I have to say, The car is fun to me. I love showing it off ($34K into it). Its fun to drive, work on and it matches me. I guess at the end of the day thats what its about. Thanks, Jason

The Broadcast sheets were instructions to the plant workers on how the car was to be equipped, it was never meant to be a permanent record for anyone. It was trash once the car left the plant.

But it has become that record. Jay
