I took mine to a good old fashioned clock shop yesterday. It will be repaired to original "sweep" hand operation and go hand-in-hand with my sweep speedo dash.
I will let you know costs, etc. when I get it back.

This may be why. A 70 Vell clock has a motor that winds the spring like an old style clock. When the spring un-winds the motor winds it again. One of the problems with clocks that fail is, If the clock has 9-12 volts the spring winding motor runs fine, HOWEVER, If at sometime the batt. gets low, The points that close, to power the spring motor will stay CLOSED.
So the motor will " Cook " Or it could be just worn out. I believe the clocks in our Chevelles were not designed to operate for 35-40 years. I had my clock rebuilt to factory org. It worked for a while then quit. If and when it comes out again it will be rebuilt with the Quartz style movement.

A quick dis-connect at the Batt. may help in the future.

People who know old cars know that the clock either should not work at all or be wildly inaccurate... ;)
It is noce to see one that works once in a while though...

if you clean the points that Bob mentioned the clock will usually start working.
