Looking for some advice I am thinking of changing my ACCEL HEI distributor to a Mallory Distributor and coil, just wondering if I will notice any difference?

Thanks

What I like about the Mallory distributors (Unilite in my 67) is that you get a nice performance curve right out of the box. Something like 24* mechanical advance all in by 3000. So set it to 12* initial and go.

They start with pretty good springs, a dual rate curve on most V8 distributors.

If you have a performance cam, you'll need more initial, but it's easy to adjust the mechanical advance to 18-20* without changing bushings, welding slots, etc.

As far as a performance difference: If your HEI has the "right" curve in it and a strong module that can take you past 5000 RPM, you probably won't notice much difference. As far as service parts go, you can get HEI stuff at any store. Mallory parts will be harder to find although very good quality.
