Neuman Mar 19th, 08, 5:19 PM Why don't you start by posting a pic here or on Dale's orphaned paperwork page (http://www.chevellestuff.com/misc/orphaned_paperwork.htm) to see if it can be reunited with the car?
Mike Mar 19th, 08, 5:22 PM As I'm not looking for missing paperwork ,it isn't going to bother me at all.
Dale has an "Orphaned Paperwork" spot on his site and you might put the info there:
http://www.chevellestuff.com/index.htm
Might post a pic of it here also and see if you get the owner to show.
It's not worth much unless you have the vehicle it goes with or you just collect "stuff".
red2bunkeru Mar 19th, 08, 5:36 PM I will thanks, how can a post a pic on this site I want you guys to see it.

You forgot about the guy that is building a "documented" car.

But how would you get a vin plate to match the build sheet. Having one made would be illegal and no one would do that! <wink><wink> ;)
DaleM Mar 20th, 08, 12:30 AM As a couple of members noted, I'd be happy to post it under 'orphaned paperwork' on my site. When/if someone recognizes it and has the car they first email me about it. I in turn reply to their email stating I'm blind carbon copying the response to the person that has the document. It's then up to you, the document holder, to respond to them and verify they have that car. Your name isn't listed and until/unless you respond, nobody knows who has the document.
I'd like a readable photo/scan as I do collect Chevelle 'stuff' (:D)and and use the data to add to my database of information.
A person trying to fake an SS is the only one that would give you more than a couple of dollars for it. As noted, it's only valid for one Chevelle out of 53,599 396/350 70 SS Chevelles. I'd much rather see it go to the owner of the car for no more than the price of postage to get it to them. All a fake has to do is 'age' a couple of blocks on the sheet then build a 'correct' car around it.

Where is the 'orphaned paperwork' area on your site, Dale? The link posted above by Neuman doesn't work.
Thanks!

Thanks!Unfortunately that was just the link to the home page. The site WAS in frames format making the only URL visiible that of the home page and not the actual page you were on. I'm uploading the new site as I write this. I removed the frames format so each page will show its true URL.
As soon as the site is finished uploading, it'll be under Links & Misc, Orphaned Paperwork (http://www.chevellestuff.com/misc/orphaned_paperwork.htm I think) but it's not finished being uploaded. Probably another 30 minutes or so.
davewho1 Mar 21st, 08, 8:15 PM Thanks, Dale! That works. Now, if only I could figure out my car's original owner ... :(

MY link works fine!!!! What are you talking about?!?!?!
;)
jasondunn Mar 22nd, 08, 9:55 AM Hey for now can you post the VIN #? WHAT, I just wanna look!!! Ya never know.
Philip Mar 23rd, 08, 3:25 PM Dale would you be interested in a build sheet for a plain jane, 6/glide, radio delete 72 El Camino? The car was crushed due to fatal rusting of most of the body. I still have the sheet. It is ironic that of all the Chevelles I have owned the only one that came with the build sheet wasn't restorable.
I have a question about box 13, control arms front HD 509. This car had the round bushing lower arms that most say were found on the performance models. Was this just a selected option? Or what would determine the installation on a particular model? This El Camino certainly wasn't performace or heavy duty.

Phillip, I remember you posting that '72 Elky. Ironically, for a desert vehicle it had the most extensive rust I have seen. Notice on the build sheet that it had a windsheild antenna despite no radio. That is because all tinted w/s cars came with the antenna imbedded.
NOTHINBUT69s Mar 24th, 08, 11:25 AM I cant see you getting any hate mail. It looks like your triing to help out a chevelle owner if anything.
I dont think I would put it on ebay unless it was a buy it now for atleast $500.00. I know I would pay that for the original paper work for my chevelle. JMO
DaleM Mar 24th, 08, 11:29 AM I think making the current owner pay anything other than maybe postage is wrong. Paperwork is different than say the original engine where that engine may have value to someone else because it could be used in anything. Paperwork is only good for one car...why hold them hostage? :noway: Just my $0.02.

Amen Dale!!
NOTHINBUT69s Mar 24th, 08, 2:22 PM So are you saying you wouldnt pay a few hundred bucks for a piece of original paper to increase the value of your car by thousands and documentation?. I'm not triing to start a big discussion but arent we all had hostage for NOS parts? some of us pay the high price for Nos stuff but it wont get you much or any more $$ out of your car. JMO
70ChevelleRagtop Mar 24th, 08, 2:52 PM Personally, I agree with Dale. No, I don't think they should have to pay for it. But...it is a free country and you're free to have a differing opinion on the subject.
I pulled a build sheet out of my L78 years ago (like 20 years ago) and put it into my toolbox, where it was stored for safe keeping, which was subsequently stolen. I'm sure the current owner of my old car would love to have that piece of paper. But I don't think he should have to pay for it. That is just MY opionion and two copper coins worth on the subject...
71 monte ss Apr 12th, 08, 8:14 AM The thought of giving the build sheet to the owner of the car is very generous in my opinion. I'm looking for mine and I would gladly pay a reasonable amount, but that just goes to show the quality of people in this car club !
DaleM Apr 12th, 08, 1:04 PM NOS parts are one thing since they'll fit numerous cars and aren't single car specific whereas documentation is unique to a car.
Certainly not directed at anyone here but I see hundreds of posts about the high costs of NOS stuff, particularly on eBay but swap meets are another venue, and just about as many from fellow enthusiasts with parts wanting to know how much they're worth. So I guess it's a matter of if you're looking to buy that 'correct' bracket, fender, intake, etc. or whether you're selling it. And it doesn't pertain to NOS stuff either. Everyone wants to get top dollar for something they have but will bargain hunt for something they need...it's human nature.

Or what would determine the installation on a particular model? This El Camino certainly wasn't performace or heavy duty. Thanks, Philip. "Plain Jane" docs are hard to come by, for obvious reasons, but still have a wealth of information - such as your question about the control arms where they make good comparisons. I don't have any other 72 Elky sheets but do have some for sport coupes. Two with HD 509 are LS5's, others are L65 350's and have RG 617 in box #13. Maybe the HD 509 was 'standard' on the Elkys since they're projected to do 'work' like a truck?? Anyone else with a 72 Elky sheet that'd chime in on what's in their box #13?
glennslanaker Apr 14th, 08, 6:26 PM i could see an argument either way on selling the build sheet. if i owned the car it pertained to, i'd think you were doing me a favor at $500. that's peanuts for the increase in value.
i'd say if you happen to find the car it goes to, and you probably won't, sell it. if you feel guilty later, give it to charity:) now that's a good compromise; you enrich someone probably $5000 in increased value, some charity gets some money, and you get a tax deduction on your schedule A. it's win-win-win.
furball8994 Apr 14th, 08, 6:46 PM Glenn. The problem is that there are so many quality "fake" Build sheets out there. People are loosing faith in them and I doubt it will add that much to the value of the car it belongs to.
glennslanaker Apr 14th, 08, 9:01 PM scott, that may be. may not be too long from now that every '69-'72 SS chevelle will be considered a clone. every time i see a '70 LS6 i can't help but think 'was this once a '307' malibu?
RyanNilcea05 Apr 18th, 08, 3:14 PM I agree, the build sheet is worthless without the car. I can't see charging someone for the sheet. I'd give to the person. It's a good feeling to help a fellow Chevelle fan out.
