I am building my first engine and just put the lifters in...should they all sit flat or is it ok for a few to be sitting up 1/8" to 1/4"?

Thanks!

Jamey, If all the lifters installed were the same height you would have a problem. They will all be a different heights due to the cam lobes.
Pull the lifters out and look down the holes for a better picture.

I thought that was the case but the first few dropped right in and to the bottom then had a few that sat up at different heights so I wanted to be sure.

Thanks Mike!!!

Hey Mike- I can only tell you what helped me with my first engine rebuild, so here goes... get yourself the book called "How to rebuild a small block Chevy" (or big block Chevy). It answered many, many questions I had when rebuilding. It even tells you how to adjust the valves and sucessfully set it up for a distributor install so it fires the first time!! Really good book and invaluable for a rebuilding project! Good luck with your engine!!

Thanks I have two books but no good pictures of the lifters or if they all sit flush or not.

Thanks again to all!!!
