what do you stock gurus think, time to buy? It's down to $20 from $54 last summer, and has had some losses but does not have the exposure to bad mortgage securities that companies like Bear Sterns has.

Bank stuff has always been safe, but maybe not this time. They haven't formally come out with their restructuring plan (that I know of). I'd hold off on making any investments in that stock. My brother worked for Citigroup until late last month. He bailed and went to another bank and got a 30% salary boost. I'd steer clear of the financial stocks as a whole (unless you can bear the ups and downs that'll take place or you want to make a quick buck here and there on day trading). How long can they pay 6%?:confused: IIRC I had read a story in Money magazine in the early '90's, about a guy that bought up Citibank after the 1987 crash and made a fortune. The financial stock to probably buy is Visa. The IPO is tomorrow.
