I'm looking at a catalog and it seems that SRP are made by JE pistons, and that SRP is just a particular line. Is that right? What sets the SRP apart because from what I'm looking it at both seems they're forged pistons and such.

Same basic piston, same company. same building, same quality ;)
The SRP's are JE's line of the more popular or most sold pistons so the pricing is a little better.

SRP's are very good pistons for a budget racer, we use them in our road racing 331" SBC. They tend to be a little heavier than their JE counterparts, and also a little less expensive.

Example -
SRP's 138085 - 4.03 bore, 1.26" CH, -5cc top, 444g, 1/16,1/16,3/16 rings - $450 a set

JE 181916 - 4.03 bore, 1.25" CH, -5cc top, 399g, 1/16,1/16,3/16 rings - $600 a set

JE has better finish work and most JE's are full skirt for extreme applications, where SRP's are more for street (Sportsman Racing Products) and aren't full skirt. HTH

Notice the CH. The SRP have the standard Chevy pin height for a 6" rod of 1.260" for use with a 3.48 stroke crank. The JE's have 1.25" for use with a 3.500" crank. Wiseco is the same with 1.260 for the ProTrue line and 1.250" for the Wiesco higher priced line. Lunati pistons are also shorter by the same amount. Be aware of this when looking at pistons, could save you some hassle when building the engine.
