Does anyone know where to get the replacement bolt to hold the caliper bracket on where the anchor pin goes when doing a drum to disc conversion? I know Ground Up has it, but has anyone ever found it more locally rather than a resto parts place?

Thanks
Rob

It is 5/8 fine thread you might be able to find one in a hardware store.

The bolt is aval. at NAPA. The factory length is 3/4-7/8", NAPA has a 1" that works just fine. I just went thru this 3 days ago. I used a grade 8 bolt. I think that's what was factory.

Any chance you remember the part number??

Thanks for the info,

It's called a 3/4" Fine Thread x 1 inch long. "National" or "SAE" -type thread. Consider this more of a "specification" than a "part number". Any good parts store or hardware store will have it.

the bolt is just too ''fat'' for any hardware store, they don't have it....i found mine at a bolt & screw company called ''fastenal''

i actually got the bolts for my Nova from a Hardware Hank in a small town. they were the only two in the area that i could find of that size, and they had a nice layer of dust on them.

I bought two boxes or 5/8"X1" and they are too long. I'm going to have to have them cut down to 5/8" so they will fit the drum spindles I had modified. I"m going to try and get them cut down next week. I'll probably have several "extra". Pete

Ha, that's funny you say that, I am in a small town in MN and just left Hardware Hank without anything. They did have a grade 5 bolt to work, but looking for grade 8 for the scheer strength.

I exhausted the efforts of going to both local hardware stores, Napa, and another parts place with no luck. The local Fastenal was closed for the day so Monday may bring better luck with them.

Waconia isn't a small town.. it is a large town.. the town i was talking about has a population of about 1000..
i think the bolts i found were left over from about the mid 80's, judging by the amount of dust that was on them.
if you have one hear you, try a Mills Fleet Farm. they have all sorts of neat bolts and nuts- and you buy it by the pound, so you might spend $1 for a pair of grade 8 bolts. otherwise, try the local farm implement dealers. you might pay a little extra for a "John Deere" or "International" bolt, but at least you'll have what you need.

I couldn't find them locally, at least not any that didn't need to be cut down or modified.
I searched the resto places and found these: http://www.drclassic.com/catalog/Camaro/Brake/Y00136.html

They worked great for me.

I found them at the local Fastenal store this morning. 1/2" diameter, fine thread approximately 1" long, and grade 8. It fit perfect and only cost .75 cents each. Thanks for all the help.

your spindles were only drilled for 1/2" bolts? i thought the early cars were 9/16" fine thread, and in 66 or so they went to the 5/8" fine thread they used right until they quit using that spindle in Nova's after the 74 model year.

Hey Pete I recently bought a a bottoming tap 5/8 fine I would be glad to loan it to you. I just ran it down my spindle until it wouldn't go any further. Then my bolt for the adapter brackets fit fine which was about 1 inch long. It took about 10-15 Min per spindle. Just let me know.
